06 DCSB V6 Auto towing review

Just towed home a boat for my father that weighed in at 3750 lbs, single axle trailer, no trailer brakes since they were not hooked up. 4hr trip.

I do not have the tow package on my truck.

I was able to reach 75mph no problems in 5th with convertor locked on flat land with light wind.

On sections that were windy and slight grade it would go out of lock up but stay in 5th. On one or two hills it did drop into 4th.

Braking was not a problem but I was not cut off at any point either for a panic stop but I did not feel worried at any point. No tail wagging at any point either.

MPG was crappy most of the way due to 30 mph side or head wind.

I would limit myself to towing 4K lbs with the truck just to not abuse it. A short trip at 5K lbs would be ok in my eyes.

Typical for the general rule to tow about 75% of tow capacity. Yeah I know you are gonna tell me it is rated only to 3500 since I do not have the tow package but the main parts being the frame, engine, trans, suspension are all there to be 6500lbs so in my eyes it can tow safely just not loosing longevity to the trans and engine due to no coolers, mainly being the trans. Will likely add one if he continues to tow with my truck.

I would add a trans and oil cooler if I was not in flat state of IL or towing over 4K regularly.

...Cool, I was a bit concerned about buying a small ( 20 ft ) camper because lack of tow package in my truck. I know these rigs are tough...but it is good to hear guys/ gals not experiencing problems.
