I was looking around the interweb and I saw this. I have been using Red Grease because I heard it wicks away moisture, BUT, some of my zerks won't take grease. I found the quote below on TTORA:

Don't forget that the double cardan joint uses lithium base moly fortified grease. All others zerk fittings use lithium base grease. I use Amspoil synthetic grease moly fortified (dark purple) and lithium base grease (red).

So if I switch over to lithium base moly fortified grease and change my zerks, will I be ok, or should I change my bearings?

Did the red grease clog my zerks?

How many zerks on the 2nd gen V6 tacoma access cab?

    7mm or 10mm?

I touch maybe 100 grease zerks a week.

Chances are the old grease behind the zerk has hardened. Sometimes a clearing tool will get it if it isn’t too bad. Other times it’s like a rock that won’t budge. You can remove the zerk then dig at it with a drill bit or cotter pin, squirt some penetrant, dig some more, then sometimes grease will go in. Sometimes Leaving the penetrant in there with the zerk put back on to act like a cap. After a few days try again and grease might go in. Liquid wrench works good at breaking up the old grease but that stuff is pretty wicked so safety glasses are a good idea. If you get it in your eyes it feels like your eyeball is dissolving.

The clearing tool takes some technique. Pull the plunger out, fill it about 3/4 full with a light oil like transmission fluid or 3 in 1 or wd40. I use hydraulic oil mixed with wd40. Put the plunger in, push til oil just begins to squirt out the coupler, now hold it so the plunger is pointing up, push the plunger in again to purge any air and oil will squirt out again. Push the coupler onto the zerk, now you gotta hold the plunger so when you hit it, it’s gonna wanna sorta bounce and fly out. Smack the plunger with a hammer and hope for the best. Safety glasses are a good idea here too. Next try the grease gun again, grease might go in. Don’t use the tool on a 90 or 45 degree zerk, it’ll just break it off.

Which grease, I’ve heard in here red and tacky is good.
