09 Tacoma 4-Cyl Auto Access Cab.
    No modifications.
    Apx 7,000 miles.
Vibration when slowly accelerating, usually between 28-30 MPH and again 38-40 mph.
Noticed it a few times when decelerating.
Reminds me of going over those 'slow down' strips in the road.

    Any idea what this is?

I have the same problem on my 08 Automatic. I would call it more of a shudder inbetween shifts. But it doesnt do it all the time.

I took it in, they said it was the Torque converter and replaced it. Seemed to help for a little while but it is doing it again.

Hopefully we get a solution to this.

something similar happened to me. i ended up doing all kinds of maintenance: spark plugs, oil change, air filter, checked for loose bolts, etc. ended up fixing it, but it's too late to pinpoint it.

I have a similar thing... almost remided me of an old Ranger I had when the heat shield and U joint went out on it. Mine does it at low RPMs in low gears (it's a manual).

Let us know if you get it fixed what it was...

Mine use to do it a lot when I first got it. Now, at 14,000 miles, it doesn't do it as often.

Thanks for advice. the dealer loosened the front and back u joint, gave the whole assemblage a vigorous shaking and tightened every thing back down, which seemed to lessen the symptoms by about 50%.....

I'll keep posting as new things happen.

I received a tip that a Service Bulletin is posted on this exact issue. I took the truck to the dealership and told them in great detail what it was doing. At Slow steady acceleration I would feel something reminded me of going over a mild set of those 'slow down' strips in the road. Would happed between 28-30 mph and again @ 38-40. Related to shifting. It's Automatic.

They did my 10,000 service, and were supposed to check this out. Tech came out saing all looks good...that will 54.95 for the service. No mention of the problem!!

I found another tech Manager, went over the whole things with him and told him to look up T-SB 0096-09.
He found the SB, re-checked the truck, couldn't make it replicate the shuddering but wrote it up anyway as if he did so it would be covered under warranty, recalibrated the ECM -engine control module.

I've driven it for 2 days and it seems fine now. :)

I have the same truck and have not experienced any vibration at all. As matter of fact I'm constantly amazed it is a 4-banger I'm driving because it is so responsive and smooth.

Yep, fixed it. Crazy thing is, I now have a new 2014 and a couple of times I think I've felt the same thing but much milder than the '09 & couldn't remember what it was "ECM" until you msg'd me! Since I was able to find a SB on it for the '09 and it was only a few months old at the time, and got a friendly service rep I was able to get it done under warranty. He couldn't replicate the issue, but since I was so convincing that I knew what I was talking about ((due to extensive research)) he wrote up the ticket as if he did experience himself and it didn't cost me anything.
