Tacoma qualifies. It would be worth buy a piece of crap truck for a few hundred & trading it in.

If the car you own has a combined 18 mpg-rating or below, you may qualify for the Cash for Clunkers rebate. Think about old SUV's or old Trucks.

    Passenger car combined 22MPG.

It would if it's the 4 banger, you just have to get a car/truck within a spec range, I believe the 4 banger will get the MPG required...

It is my understanding that you have to have had the clunker registered in your name for a year to stop people from doing this.

Just noticed this was covered above. "The vehicle you are trading in must be continuously registered and insured for the full year preceding the trade-in"

you would think they would do somthing so that you could get $4500 on top of what your trade in is worth.. say for example IF my truck is worth like $25k or so.. I should get about $30k for it if i was buying a Prius or something similar

Then the government would have to give out god only knows how much more money to cover the trade-in value. We can't afford to pay for the damn Cash for Clunkers program that's already in place.

Not to mention there would be some kind of collapse as everyone in the country would be wanting to trade in their car.

The only Tacoma that can't qualify is the V6 with 6 speed. The new truck has to get 18MPG average, as rated by the EPA. The V6/6sp is rated 17. A new truck has to get at least 2MPG better than the old truck to get $3500 credit, and 5MPG better to get the $4500 credit.

So, there may be a more V6/6SPs around than any other trim.

    I got $3500+100 scrap value for a hopelessly rusty 94 Dakota V8/5SP on an 09 V6/Auto DC LB (rated 18MGP). :)

Am I missing something? They already have the 2010's on the lots here in Florida. I test drove a 2010 before I bought my 2009 back in June. They had 2 2010 tacoma's and 7 or 8 Tundras on the lot when I left. What's the deal with no 2010's at the dealerships there?

I just checked and they already sold both 2010's tacoma's but they still have a few tundra's.

    You are mistaken.

2010 Tundras HAVE been out for quite a while, but no Tacoma's yet.

Hell my 2009 Tacoma was built 07/09.

    2010s aren't even on Toyota.com yet.

Not to mention TOYOTA themselves just announced the 2010 Tacoma and its changes on July 31st.

I'm telling you I test drove a 2010 Base 4x4 CC in late June. I couldn't get the rebate on it because it was a 2010. The sticker said 2010. They had it and a 2010 AC TRD with leather. My 09 I bought was built in 4/09.

Called two more local dealerships this morning and they are both "out of 09s and will have 2010s on the lot in about 3-4 weeks." That makes about 5 dealerships that have told me these exact words.

On a side note...I cant believe every local dealership of mine is sold out of tacomas right when I start trying to buy lol! Guess Ill be getting a 2010.

Dealers up in eastern MA/NH are low on 09 stock and most don't have any listed. Im waiting till September to look around, but I will probably have to order it anyway to get what I'm looking for. I still need to private sell my "clunker" oh sorry I meant Jeep.
