Jumping Cactus, Teddy Bear Cholla or the Cholla.

Reason for carrying a comb in the desert.

I remember riding through the northwestern part of Tucson on my mountain bike when my buddy in the lead kicked up one of them and it landed right under my nose. Imagine one of those attached to where a mustache would normally be.

Reason for a comb. That is an easy way to get them off/out slide the comb between the cacti and the skin and pull. Pliers work fairly well, however when grasping the cacti a little twisting of the needles happens and it can make it a little more painful.

Barrel cacti are pretty can be bad with their hooked barbs.
