BDAAA357-4775-46C2-8AF5-A52EA426B23E.jpg Noticed this about 2 weeks after bringing my truck to Toyota for a 13 km service. Mechanic friend of mine whose opinion I trust says that the gasket is failing but Toyota likely wont do anything as it is not considered ‘fully leaking’

Anyone have a similar experience with there one year old truck?

No drop no leak. It's just sweating. I'd just check on it now and then. It's 5 years 60k miles on that for warranty so you have time.

    1. Whats a differential breather
    2. What are people replacing the stock gasket with to improve/fix this potentially growing issue?

Yes, early on there was a recall for same/worse situations.

You might give an ugga dugga on those mounting bolts, just to make sure none are loose. IF they are, then clean the diff and monitor.

Otherwise, just monitor. As @Bishop84 says, that's minimal and you have lots of time.

Yea, link is for a 2nd gen, but it's same ole same ole.

Not a bad idea to do if you off road deep water. But Izzy says unlikely to be your root cause here.

The good news is if you live in salt country those spots are protected. And if you do live in salt country, it looks like the rest of your frame could use some treatment.

Diff breather allows the oil and gases in the Diff to expand and contract. Releases pressure on seals etc. Pic of my “Diff breather relocate” behind the taillight.

My 2017 was an actual leak.
First it was sweating like yours, got the TSB in the mail, took it in for a retighten and then it went from sweating to leaking…
Took it back - my local dealer said since the TSB was performed, I’m SOL.

I yanked my 3rd member and got rid of the POS paper gasket and RTV’d it how it should’ve been done to begin with.

Also - careful if you do the retighten route. There’s two different torque spec figures floating around. I see you have a 2021 so I’m gonna “assume” yours is the higher torque rating.
From what I’ve read in the past, Toyota was swapping the 3rd member hardware out to stronger strength bolts for a higher torque rating if your diff was leaking (not sweating) while under the TSB.

Like I said, I have a 2017 and they did not do that, they just retightened to the smaller grade spec.

Thanks for the info. Where can I get my hands on the RVT gasket you are referring to. Why wasnt this something Toyota installed from the factory if it fixes this problem?

RTV is liquid gasket maker. It's like gluing it together.

RTV can be found in any auto parts store but to use it properly you need to pull the 3rd and basically create a gasket.

Wasn't there a recall or more likely a TSB for leaking rear diffs on 3rd gens?

    Somewhere probably
    Vehicle:
    Off-road Tenthouse
    an empty wallet
You can run a bead of RTV around it and give it 12-24hrs to cure

Check out post #2014 for the original TSB (with pictures).

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...le-loss-of-control-of-vehicle.488536/page-101

I had the above TSB done when my truck was 1 year old and the weeping has not returned. My weeping looked like your pictures. Print out the original TSB and take it to the dealer. Try to have the dealer address the issue since you are under warranty. When out of warranty, then I would deal with it on my own.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Mine did the same around 5k and went away. If it's not a leak, dealer won't touch it but you may want to make an appointment to document. 20210617_175058.jpg 20210914_140518.jpg
