Took the OP and ran with it! Thanks @mesojdm, for the write up. This had been bugging me since I bought the truck (about a month ago) and I couldn't take it any more. Cheap and easy with the hardest part being the wire run to the cab (not that bad, but I'm old and lazy).

I got super lucky with the polarity on the first try! Ended up not having to rewire it!

Nice work... I finally ordered the actuator and the connectors so I could still remove the tailgate if I want. Hope to get to it this week sometime!

What was your estimated start to finish time?

Between fabbing an enclosure, running wire, figuring out how/where to attatch actuator, reassemble, etc. about an hour and a 1/2

It takes approx. four beers and, for me, a buddy to bullshit with you and laugh while you wiggle around underneath the truck!

Did yours actually operate at that angle? Mine was like that at first and it didnt work at all, had to go buy some longer bolts and spacers and drop it down to be more in line

It does and I wondered about it, but figured I could add spacers if it freaks out. Maybe I just got lucky with a tough guy actuator?

need to learn more about this stuff
I’ve had the stuff for a month or so but no time to install yet. But been thinking about it. I was wondering, if I have my tailgate down and lock the truck will I still be able to close the tailgate? I’m sure this question will be answered once I install it and better understand what is happening. But until then I thought I’d just ask. Reason I ask is I often lock my can with tailgate down and leave my keys in the back and then close the tailgate and lock with the key from inside fob. I do this to go surfing. But if this won’t work I’m not going to do the mod.

I believe that you won't have any problem. It is identical to locking your tailgate with the key, so it can be tested as it sits now.

@mesojdm, probably a stupid question, but I have some 16-2 landscape wire in my garage. Can I use that to run the wire?

Saw this thread this morning, realized I had power actuators in my bay at work, knocked this out in about an hour. Thank you again @mesojdm for saving me literally $80 on this one mod
