    Hi All,

I plan to purchase this box

    http://www.supercrewsound.com/10tacoecconsole.html

for a 2013 tacoma access cab and put a 10" sub in it (likely an Image Dynamics) and power with 200 watts rms.

The box normally has 1.5" of clearance between sub and floor (confirmed with customer service). I've seen recommendations of 1/4 the diameter, which would be 2.5".

Is this something to worry over and pay a bit extra for customization?

Does anyone have a similar set up and let me know how it turned out?

    Thanks

I built a custom box in my double cab. It goes behind my seats.

As far as a down fire box for and AC... What you need to know is what is the excursion of the sub, this will tell you how far from the ground it needs to be. If it starts hitting the ground you will not get full performance, obviously, but worse you will be damaging the sub. Another thing is the box has .8 ft of space... some subs require more, so make sure you get a sub that does not require more than that.

Judging from the link it sounds like they want to know what sub you plan to put into it before you order it. This will allow them to build it and make sure they sub fits properly and doesn't hit anything.

Ding ding we have a winner. Every sub will have different excursion, what Jim has won't be the same as George, and nobody will match Caitlyn's setup :stirthepot:

I built a box almost identical to that, my mounting surface is 2" up off the floor and I can still get a finger down there safely at obscene volumes. This is with a Kicker 8" S8L7 square woofer, your mileage will vary.

I have the Supercrewsounds box you linked paired with the Image Dynamics IDQ 10" sub, which you want. You'll be fine on clearance. I have 500rms going to the ID sub and it hits pretty hard.

*On a side note, in my '14 AC, the box doesn't fit just right and they are supposedly looking for a donor truck to modify the design slightly. For me, I cannot use my rear seatbelts and it smushes up against the center console too much (too tight of fit). Also the 'legs' don't reach the floor like shown in the picture.

I'm guessing the clearance issue would be the same in a 2013 AC then?

Clearance issue should be the same on any 12-15'. Through talking with them IIRC they built the box off a 2011 Tacoma. You can order that box and it will work fine but just expect it to fit extremely snuggly, the legs don't reach the floor and you won't be able to keep your rear seat belts. Functionally, the box works great.

This shows the legs obviously not reaching the floor. And you can already tell by the photo how tight the top part of the box and the back of the center console is just by the angles. I have more pictures if you'd like to see. Just let me know.

True, I made a deal about it with them because they advertised that you COULD keep the rear seat belts. Plus the fitment issues... I just hope they honor their word and redesign the box and send me out a new one.
