Hello guys, I just wanted to share my experience with my 16 OR on my first road trip.......
Greatly disappointed BUT I still love my truck! Its an OFF ROAD edition so i'm sure it works 100 times better on the dirt than pavement. My biggest issue was the uncontrolled gear shifting, i don't know if it was because i run 285's or it is just geared that way. I drove from Brownsville, TX to DFW and back all in one day, the 77 and i35 have a few hills and every time i hit a hill on cruise it would down shift to 4th and rev to like 4,000 @ 75mph. My mpg was my other concern, I NEVER got passed 15 mpg! Is this normal? Like I said I still love the hell out of my truck, but my decision to buy it was to save on gas from my 2014 gmc sierra 4x4 with 3" lift and 35's.........

I'm sure having 285s is playing a big role in the poor MPGs, but from looking through this forum, a lot of people have the issue with the transmission shifting like crazy. I think some people are using the sport shifting option to help with that.

I just drove from Shreveport to lake Charles yesterday, I am 100% stock but also had an extremely strong head wind, I drove 77ish the whole way and my converter stayed unlocked almost the entire time, any slight hill it would down shift and rev to 3500rpm, it really was wearing on me especially being used to a tundra that just walks through hills and wind like nothing, my mpg I think I still averaged 18-19 and being pretty aggressive on the go pedal. This truck will take a lot of getting use to but I really am enjoying it none the less

Same thoughts on the full size feeling but still love this truck!

Has anyone used ECT with cruise control? Maybe I'll try that today on my trip. The shifting doesn't really bother me too much though, not as much as it does others here

Let it rev, it's not a big block Chevy under the hood. :)

I have a 2nd gen and just drove 1000 miles from San Diego,CA to Emmett, ID and I have 35's w/4.56 gears and averaged ~14 @ 67mph going through the Sierras and I would maybe drop one gear going up the steep hills. Yours sounds similar but should be better than that with a 3rd gen 6 speed.

Shifting gets better or you get used to it. I use the manual shifter when I need the power. I am getting around 16 mpg no matter what I try ... maybe 17.5 mpg driving slower. I have Stock 2016 TRD OR 4X4 DCSB AUTO V6 around 5000 miles on it. Love my truck ... getting used to the constant shifting ...

i use the shift mode 90% of the time only use auto when on the open highway. like one poster said "any slight hill it would down shift and rev to 3500rpm" thats exactly what would drive me nuts. that tranny needs to be re programmed shift points too close together. is there some kind of program for a lap top where we can pick our own shift points. come on 6th gear at 40MPH.

This is good info. Solidifying the fact that I should order mine with a manual.

btw your mileage could be off because your speedo is off from the bigger tires.

either a manual or use the automatic in shift mode. as far as i am concerned you can throw the auto part of it in the trash....you should test drive the auto using shift mode it is pretty cool' the paddle shift.

I tried the navigation setting feature but I have yet to test it, is there any other way with out having to tap into the computer? I do not want to void my warranty.

I test drove a TRD Sport 4x4 with 3 inch lift and 285's. It did very well, it had enough power, but the transmission sucked. The only time it was manageable was with ECT power on. The manual shift mode was the best and so much fun
