I switched to synthetic at 120,000 miles without issues. I did not have any leaks then and I don't have any now.

Engines with existing leaks may get worse with synthetic, but they needed fixing anyway right?

Use Mobil 1 "High Mileage" synthetic. Not sure if it's BS but according to my mechanic the high mileage version has additives that fill in scratches in the engine and add more protection. Shouldn't have any issues.
