Sounds like a bad trans fluid temp sensor to me. Computer was told trans fluid was about to boil and went into failsafe to prevent damage. Had a Mazda do that once and dealer said it was normal. What wasn't normal was that the sensor was inaccurate by about 13-15 degrees and told the computer the fluid was hotter than it was.

^ this. Dealer likely didn’t check it as part of PDI because none of them do

Well I should have said, “in addition” the fluid may be low. The OP had warning lights and they’re pulling codes, maybe bad crank sensor.

When you said Anderson I could only think of that stoplight.

Hopefully this is a bad crank sensor, but I'm concerned about moisture getting into electronics. Finding a bad connector takes longer.

The dealer felt bad about it. They did everything they could to help, I'm sure they'll find the bad part.

Let’s hope it’s just a bad sensor... if your transmission temp gets hot enough to trip the warning light, then damage has been done, even if it’s not apparent for a few thousand more miles. Ask to see the transmission fluid, if it smells like burning rubber or looks brownish, then make sure the event is documented by the dealer. You may need a new transmission down the road... again, hoping for a failed sensor.

Transmission fluid levels are a notorious issue with Tacomas. And the 3rd Gens have a short history (2016-2018) of transmission issues as it is.

Fricking gnawing, hungry rats. The sewer was flooding and they got up to street level and saw a Taco to chew on. Have you seen all those little colored wires all over the engine bay and underneath your truck? Happens all the time.

Well, perhaps not that, but maybe the sensor plugs under your truck got wet or loose?

Good luck with that, how frustrating!

I can't believe how fast Fox Toyota jumped all over this. The only reason I bought a Toyota was the fact everyone I knew bragged about the service at Fox Toyota. I'm a believer.

I love mine- just keep the engine bay dusted in cayenne pepper while camping. Hope the 2019’s have worse tasting wire insulation than mine.

let's hope it was all sensors and safety systems that disabled the transmission and not any actual damage. I get pissed when I hear about BS like this any 2-3 year old car, much less a Toyota truck.
