    Mods? Yes.
Ohhh, yeah for sure, you can use recovery straps or chains to extend the length. A come along is a pain because its a longer setup time and you only get about 4-5ft of movement for each spool up before you have to re-rig, but that's honestly usually all you need to get out of a hole.

Safety-wise, you need to be aware of the ratings of the webbing/rope/chain/cable you're using as well as the load rating changes associated with each coupling (every connection can reduce the overall load capacity. If you're using all heavy duty (like 8 ton) stuff though, you don't really have to worry as long as you're conscious of the physics; even the direction of a hook (from below or from above) can drastically impact how dangerous the system will be if it fails. It is extremely important to understand what kind of gear you're using- whether its dynamic (stretchy) or static (much less stretchy) and when to use which.

With all this said, a simple rigging system is usually best and using a come along doesn't get you simple usually. It also puts you closer to the system that's being loaded, so you must be smart.

    Some helpful YouTube resources:
How to utilize a come along for recovery
Good overview of ideal gear and how to use it
Matt's Off Road Recovery. See how he does it in Utah (quite entertaining channel)
Search YouTube for "off road recovery fails" - don't do them
Dangers of snatch recoveries (and also some good details on why a tow/recovery line under tension is so dangerous

Thanks! I'll give these a read/watch. I'm getting a degree in Electrical engineering so I understand the physics pretty well and I have a little knowledge from lurking on here and Jeep forums for awhile. Still lacking lots of knowledge and experience applying that knowledge.

On that note, is there anyone that wants to go on this trip but doesn't want to drive? I would be happy to have a more experienced co-driver (especially if they brought along recovery gear). Beer or coffee is on me (sorry, not both)

Driving in snow is all about keeping momentum.

Driving in ice is all about doing anything you can to not loose traction. Partly momentum, but mostly remembering not to hit the brakes or accelerate too quick. Going down an icy hill is fairly Simple. 4-lo, and whatever gear you’re in, stay in. Don’t speed up, don’t slow down.

I'd be interested if I don't head out for a pew sesh, specially from the 90 side.

No more snow traffic for me... my maxtrax are still cooling off.

I'd be down for a pew sesh... I've got some fun ones and some new optics to play with.

Slap some cortisone back there, get in a few hot yoga sessions and get your butt out there.

Well, its been an ongoing nerve issue for 3 years now. Whole left leg goes numb, cant move, its pretty shitty. The severity comes and goes but the pain is constant.

You need to get seen for that. Sounds like nerve issues, that won't just heal itself or go away
