The phone addition to the remote start from 12 volt solutions is very simple to install.

You download the app on your phone and enter the product ID on the app.

The module is about 3"x1" if i remember correctly and plugs directly into the remote start module you already have installed.

I recently installed the phone module on mine as I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with the range of the factory fob. It might cost a little bit but I plan on having this truck for a while and a quality remote start with capabilities to locate my truck and see the status of the timer and door locks I feel it was a good investment.

EDIT: and I absolutely hate the cold midwest.

There is no doubt 12VS is a great company, but with all great companies, there is a big premium to the name. N2 Designs has the same factory sources for the same products as 12VS if anyone is looking for either remote start or smart add on same one as 12VS, but guaranteed 4G chipset (still some 3G cellular chips floating around), and because it’s identical but the most updated version that JUST came out, it works with the Directed DB3 unit 12VS kits for PTS and Fortin they kit for the HKEYs. N2 Designs even has HKEY Manual Plug n Play kits avaliable too proof of concept video click here

    Check it out here:

    N2 Designs Shop:

PM me for a special TW member discount code. We just ran a Black Friday special where:

PTS was $159 down from $189,
HKEY Auto was $219 down from $249
HKEY Manual was $249 down from $299
Smart Module was $159 down from $189

We also can do pretty much any car by request but since this is a Tacoma forum we really don’t advertise that much.

Hundred sold to members on this forum in the four day Thanksgiving break. We’re currently fulfilling thier orders. We offer Saturday and Sunday support because most people get a chance to work on thier hobbies only then, why wait until Monday to get help? You’ve got to put your car back together and go to work too! We also test EACH unit on an actual Tacoma for functionality before sending out, no one else does this! We don’t do this for any other make or model!

Reviews for the product start on page 6 of the thread linked above (NOT ONE NEGATIVE OR BAD REVIEW):

No reason to pay more for the same devices/hardware. Spend that money on other mods! We’ll make you happy and if you’re not, well do what it takes to change that...almost anything. Find me someone else (that is an authorized dealer like N2 Designs) that offers all this at that price point!

Do you guys trucks flash the DRLs like three or four times when you remote start with the fob before it actually starts? I took a video of it:

Since the vehicle turns off when opening the doors, that’s an absolute no go for me... waiting for the work around to be developed.

You’re not the only one, but I will never understand the logic here.

The purpose of remote starting a vehicle is to either warm it up/defrost it when it’s cold out, or cool it off when it’s hot out.

You have to press the start button after you get in the truck either way, so why would you rather enter an uncomfortably cold/hot truck than to remote start it beforehand?

Basically, what you’re saying is: “My comfort is not worth the effort of pressing the lock button 3 times or a single button in an app. I’d much rather get into a freezing cold truck or one that is 110+ degrees than to have to go through all of that.”

And any bullsh*t about extra wear and tear on the starter is exactly that.

You’re putting words in my mouth, i.e., what’s in quotes “ “ not my point.

Issue is the lack of professional results with regard to a modification. May seem like childish reasoning to others perhaps, however to me it’s idiotic to have a remote start with a forced auto shut off just when you’re getting in the vehicle to drive away. The irration of opening the door followed by engine shut down, coupled with my OCD, would drive me crazy after a few such events... thus I would rather do without.

That’s just me... as far as usefulness, I live in a moderate climate and remote start would seldom be utilized (my thoughts on this subject could be different if I were domiciled in harsh climates). When it does get too cold (requiring an engine warmup), I simply do like those that don’t have the mod... I go outside and start the vehicle and return inside. I’ve owned several vehicles with remote start (both factory and aftermarket), and I’ve never seen such a flawed system (even if it’s Toyota’s engineering... my Mercedes and GMC’s have had no such drawbacks).

So, I would consider purchasing if the engine remained running, and having to push the start button before applying brakes (like other manufacturers have engineered) to allow for continued operation would be satisfactory. I understand the engine turning off action isn’t caused by the aftermarket systems, rather yet another Toyota engineering quirk.

Agree, Jimmy and I sell the same thing and there is no reason to pay more for a name. Our cell modules are exactly the same and 40 bucks cheaper.

Agreed, that one quick small press, hell if the starter ever does (unlikely), I’d sacrifice that for years of comfort and a car that’s all stretched out for its marathon...the starter will far outlive you, and your Tacoma...I don’t know if people realize the number of cycles it’s life can handle. In the 90’s it was around 50,000 cycles. Today, especially because of auto start/stop technology on some vehicles having raised the bar on robustness, you’re talking 500,000 to 1.2 million cycles! You do the math of how much, on average, you start your vehicle per day. At 3 times per day, that’s 167,000 days to 400,000 days, or 457 years to 1096 years! Your engine would’ve been replaced a few times already and we’ll be able to remote start vehicles by just thinking it by then!
