12VDC to Kenwood KSC-SW11 Subwoofer

I just installed a KSC-SW11 in my 2009 Access Cab yesterday. My intent is not to rattle windows, but simply to round out the sound of the JVC KW-V30BT that I installed a few months ago. I'm sure I might draw a few chuckles from some here.. but I powered the sub temporarily using a jumper cable direct from the battery yesterday and it sounds fine for my intended purpose.

I still have to connect the wire for the main 12VDC supply to the sub. The in-line fuse to the sub is a 10 amp. I have the wire routed from between the fold-down seats (where the sub is mounted) to up under the dash. Since the sub is fused to 10 amps, can I use something like shown in these pictures (that I found in another thread) to pick up the main power from a currently unused spot in the fuse box?

Note: I considered running the wires under the plastic storage tray, but decided just to coil up the excess and bundle it under where the rear console mounts

I still need to hook that yellow wire to somewhere (hopefully at the fuse box per my first post) to supply the main 12vdc power to the sub.

I got the 12vdc power hooked up this afternoon with the help of the "Add-a_Circuit" that I ordered from

$8 Lumision ADD Circuit Blade Style ATT Low Profile Mini FUSETAP Fuse TAP + Fuse Set 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20 AMPS

Amazon. I put it in fuse position "5", which claims to be for the Power Outlets according to my owners manual. That position maintains power even with the key turned to "off".

 

Looks good....clean almost oe. So tell me what you think of the subwoofer? I am thinking of purchasing one for our 370Z w just purchased and just want some bottom end with out taking space or vibrating the neighbors. If you would do it over would you buy it again or go a different route? For reference I have the oe JBL soundsystem in my 05 tacoma and I am more than happy with the sound, as I am getting older and I am listening to more and more talk radio anyway!

 

I like it. It adds a LOT to the sound I was getting before (the stock 2009 Access Cab speakers) with the JVC system alone. It doesn't rattle windows, and you won't hear me coming down the street.... it just sounds good. I listen to mostly 60's thru 90's rock.. I might be older than you, the 60's stuff was new when I was a teenager. I bought the KSC-SW11 from Amazon, the price there was much less expensive than Crutchfield where I bought the JVC.

Does your 370Z have a subwoofer already built-in? If so, I'm not sure how that would work out if you had TWO subs? Our 2014 Maxima has a factory sub, as does our 2011 Armada. I think this little Yamaha in the Tacoma sounds better than either of those.

 

Yea sounds like you got me beat by about 10 years! I appreciate the feedback and I think I might give it a try and at 150 bucks I wont be too upset if it doesnt work well. This is my first nissan, as I am a Toyota loyalist, but no I basically bought a base 2015 z with nothing on it, so its stereo is not great. I will let you know what i think if we decide to get. thanks again for reply.

Bringing this thread back, just bought one myself and I'm wondering how you hooked up the switched blue/white wire? Did you use the fuse box for that as well or tap into the headunit wiring?

 

I tapped a fuse I don't remember which one though.

 

I'm just wondering why I need to connect both wires? If I tapped the ACC fuse location for the power wouldn't it automatically switch on and off with the ignition? I'm just wondering if I could just connect the power wire and leave the blue/white unconnected and achieve the same result?

 

The subwoofer draws too much power to simply use the ACC fuse location. The ACC wire/fuse is used only for switching (to turn the sub on/off). The main 12VDC power for running the sub comes from the other wire, that can be connected directly at the vehicle battery. I connected mine at a fuse in the fuse box using the power-tap fuse like the one shown in the first picture in this thread. I had no problems running this sub from the power at the fuse box. A larger sub would probably be a different story.

What is the model number of the Pioneer unit you have? Does it turn on/off with your ignition? If it does, all we should have to do is look at its wiring harness diagram in the manual and find the wire there that would work for you to tap into for the Blue/White wire connection to the Kenwood sub.

 

Thanks for the help, I think I'm all set now. My plan is to use the fuse box for the power and plug an add-a-circuit into the "power outlet" fuse, which from what I've found should be able to supply the needed power.

'm going to connect the switched power to the blue/white wire coming out the back of my pioneer headunit (avh4400) and connect the rca cables at the same time. I guess I could also tap into a switched fuse but I'm wondering which one and if I'll have enough room for 2 add/circuit units?

Perfect. If you connect the sub's Yellow (constant 12VDC power) wire to the truck's Power Outlet fuse, and the sub's Blue/White wire to the Red wire from the back of your Pioneer unit, you should be all set. Be sure to leave the Red wire connected to wherever else it's already connected to also. Then the Pioneer and the sub will both turn on when you turn the ignition on.

 

What are the connectors on the end of the wiring covered in plastic? What type of connectors do I need coming from the stereo wiring and tap a fuze to connect them all? Also what size fuse on the add a fuse? Thanks
