As far as I'm aware, 555 makes the OEM BJs. They are (supposedly) different from the aftermarket 555's you get form lowrange, but 555 is the OEM supplier.

    And?

Unless there's another brand name stamped on it, that just means 555 doesn't stamp their name on OEM equipment, which is common.

Quite opposite to what Bosh is doing on their brake boosters. When they make OEM they have company logo on it (not Bosh but whoever they are making it for), but when they sell the same item for aftermarket they grind out the company logo leaving the item plain (no logo, no name).

12k for a vehiclethat is nearly 20 years old with 100k+ on the odometer, and *not* a collectors car, is just wild to me. It’s an engine that’ll generally last a while if treated well, but it’s still a midsize truck.

Big reason why I just bought new - couldn’t get over the used market prices. That said, I know I’ll be taken care of when I sell

That said, if I had 10-15 to burn on a fun restoration side vehicle, this or an old Jeep would be just as good.

My brother in law went the "Jeep" path. He spent more time under the vehicle than in it. Fun, if restoration is your goal, not fun if you want to drive it from time to time.

My girls dad did his right - he put a V8 in it and rebuilt the transfer case. It’s her old one, and it went that old, but it was in that year group after the rock solid I6 that had the god awful engines in them.. not to say any Jeep is terribly reliable anyways.

But like it’s been iterated.. if you’re buying a 1G, you better be good at maintenance. Things creep up on a vehicle that old, regardless of brand.

I had a chance to buy a babied 1G 5spd a few years ago a year after I bought my third gen. I knew it was in fantastic shape. He wanted fair value for it too, uhh.

Right but it doesn't hurt when you take it out on the trail. On the polar opposite, I could never buy a 35k truck and take it offroad!

Entirely likely. I can't say for 100% that 555 is the OEM manufacturer, that's just what I've heard from at least a couple different places, this site, lowrange that mentions 555 being an OEM supplier in the part description, etc...

    Different company, different policy.

I agree the 12k is steep though. I’ve got until Saturday to 100% make up my mind if I feel uneasy
