I’ve never had a MT as a daily drive so it’ll be interesting driving it if I do purchase.

 

You'll be fine! I drove them in Hawaii (top-3 worst traffic in the US) for years and now drive this truck in Morgantown (swear the entire town was built into dealing sides of a hill). Just treat the clutch like a general wear out item (especially since you're buying it used and you're at the driving habits of the previous owner(s)).

 

Not gonna read 16 pages to catch up, but bought my prerunner v6 RWD auto with 89k 4 years ago for $6800 - no frame rust to be seen, though I didn't know that was a concern at the time. I sometimes think I was ripped off... then I see these posts.

 

Sounds like you got a good deal to me. Maybe the new 3rd gen set off the market for the 1st??

Also possible the 90's factory water cup blue paint was a deal breaker for people.. lol

 

I saw one of the PRErunner '99 with 200k in my locale recently, basically rotting through quickly
used dealer wants 5k for it

i honestly wonder if that is possibly true
after what seemed to happen in 2oo5 with no longer having the small compact pickup, people that wanted something smaller waited and waited and then the 3rd gen come out and still NO small compact truck!

by smaller I mean height wise, so that you don't have to be Aaron Judge tall to reach the middle of the bed to grab something or move it around without needing a stepstool or small ladder

 

Well I decided to not get the 2003. Financially it just didn’t work out for me right now. I’m sad and the seller is pissed but oh well.

I love my third gen, but I definitely love the look of the first gems too. Still wish I’d have gotten a 5th Gen T4RP in QS/Cement tho

 

I think I’ll get a 4 runner as my next rig. I don’t use the bed of my Tacoma as much. If I find a 1st gen deal that I just can’t pass up maybe I’ll get one but for now I’m saving my $.

 

Only reason I didn’t go through on the trade for a CB Pro was because I have a front bumper and full suspension... and they were gonna hose me on the trade. No thanks.

I just bought a 04 quad cab trd 4x4 factory e locker extra set wheels tires with EVERY single receipt on work done since new for 5k, has small exhaust leak and few rust spots on body and bed but overall good.
