Does this mod require the caliper mounting bolts from the Tundra as well? Or can I stick with my stock mounting bolts

I was unaware this was a requirement. All the guides I saw didn't even mention it. I'm running Tacoma bolts still.

Edit: Seems some people have had issues and some haven't. I'm running 13WL NAPA calipers for reference.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Been running Tundra brakes going on 3 wheeling seasons... using Tacoma bolts. No issues.

I have used the Tacoma bolts on 2 trucks personally and seen them used on 4 more. Never an issue. This is on Napa, O'Reilly, junk yard, and Callahan calipers (though, if they are 13WL castings, that part of them should all be the same, really).

The more interesting decision - as you likely know - has to do with the brake lines, and whether you go with:
    1. Drilling out the OEM Tacoma banjo bolt to shorten it so it fits the 13WL.
    2. Remove the ferrel from the 13WL and hopep the OEM banjo fits
    3. Get some aftermarket SS lines with a shorter banjo (Wheelers)
    4. Convert to the Tundra hard/soft combo
Originally...I thought - the Tacoma uses a banjo bolt from the factory, so it must be OK to do the same with the Tundra calipers (#3 above). And, for two years, it worked out great. That is, until one of my calipers seized up on the trail and I had to replace it.

As part of that process, I learned the hard way that not all Tundra calipers are correctly remanufactured to work with banjo bolts. At first I thought this was super weird, but as I thought about it, the reason for this dawned on me: if you're using the Tundra 13WL for it's intended use - on a Tundra - the special machining needed to use a banjo bolt is unnecessary, since the Tundra doesn't use a banjo.

Interesting. I remember seeing a post a few months back about how on the Tundra forums some people were converting from the hard lines to banjo bolt setups. Meanwhile we have a lot of guys on here going hard lines. Makes me sort of paranoid with my wheelers ss lines. Read your whole story on it. Thankfully my NAPA eclipse calipers were fine.

I’m also using the taco caliper bolts on my conversion and wheelers as brake lines. Works fine on my 03. Plenty of clearance

On my 04 I went with 13WL castings from NAPA, Wheeler Stainless lines, and Toyota OEM hard lines, OEM pads, and OEM discs...I also used the stock Tacoma caliper bolts...No issues with the install and ongoing brake performance has been great...

Yep, that was my original setup as well. Worked fine until one of the Napa eclipse calipers seized, and when I went back to Napa they no longer carry that brand. The new brand they carry doesn't work with the wheelers lines, which was the entire impetus for me switching over to the hard lines, which are what 13wl castings are designed for.

Thank you all for the input! I have my stock bolts in right now just was curious if they needed to be the ones off of a Tundra. I had one fall out on me and thought maybe it wasn’t biting enough thread. Seems I just forgot to properly torque it on.

The Tundra bolts are a little shorter than Tacoma bolts. Some have had issues with the Tacoma bolts bottoming out. I assume that some of the OEM Tundra calipers have a thinner mounting flange. I made sure that I got the Tundra bolts along with the OEM calipers from the local wrecking yard, just in case.

The Tundra bolt is on the right in the attached photo:

Hmm. Maybe that’s why one of mine fell out, Im pretty sure I had it properly torqued. But maybe it was just bottomed out with some thread still not biting :anonymous:
