The reason I asked about repaint is Super White is a single stage with white and clear combined. Super white is not 2 stage. There are plenty of threads on here about it.

I don’t think you will find any manufacturer who is going to warranty paint after 14 years. I am not asking whether or not it will last. FWIW my 2011’s paint is fine but it’s not Super White.

I would expect all manufacturers have shifted to water based due to EPA.

It's possible the dealership had part(s) of the truck repainted prior to sale. Accidents happen...even on dealership lots and it's hard to sell a "new" car with a big 'ol dent on the hood.

Everything I've seen about Toyota 040 Super White says it's a single stage paint. Toyota's Super White and gloss black (don't know the official name) with no metallic are both single stage. If you're 100% sure there's clear coat peeling (as opposed to oxidation) then it's either been repainted or clear coated.

At any rate...040 is super thin and fragile. I wrapped my B pillars and in the trial/error process I peeled off a bunch of paint. The quality of it is horrible.

Just reported my paint to Toyota to open a claim. Tacoma's are still not apart of it. He said all they are doing at the moment is opening a case and sending it up the ladder till they get enough complaints. But if it does happen I will now get a letter. So if you are having this problem make sure to call and get a complaint in. The more people that complain the sooner it will happen.

I know someone that took their white Tacoma to a Toyota dealership with a collision center. Said they approved and repainted. I went to the same center and they explained what causes this and did the "tape test" that pulled off paint in new areas I wouldn't have thought to check and made the current peeling areas much worse (both sides under tail lights/behind bumper, both sides top of fender between windshield and front doors, gas tank door & panel). They sent pictures to corporate and they denied the request telling me Tacomas aren't covered (even after the dealership told me they've been doing Tacomas and my friend just had his done) but they also said I don't have much maintenance history with them. I said I could supply all maintenance history if that's the issue, but the techs at the dealership even commented on how well the truck has been kept. Called corporate and got no where. They had nothing to say other than a letter would be sent out if a support program is issued. The dealership did a courtesy on their own and touched up the areas they pulled paint so the metal is covered, but this is only a quick fix to avoid rusting. Everyone should call and voice their issues.

I just took my peeling super white DCLB to the dealer today, I got the same story, everything but the Tacoma is covered! The Service Manager is going to submit it to Toyota, we'll see what happens. My roof feels like 320 grit sand paper, my doors are peeling around the windows, my A pillars are about to peel, as are the tops of my fenders. The problem is, only the doors will pass the tape and peel test as of today. My hood looks like hell, its all splotchy and the front corners above the headlights are getting dark like the primer is about to break through.

My truck is a '14 but it has had issues for a few years, I am also only at 37,000 miles. I take good care of my Toyotas, I currently have 3, I've had 7 since 2006. I hope that Toyota shows some mercy. I had thsi exact same issue with my 2006 DCSB, I paid the dealership $800 in 2012 to repaint my hood, roof and tops of the fenders. The new paint was shiner than the new truck paint ever was.

My experience: Local dealers won't do anything except check your VIN and say no.

Basically call Toyota, talk to a rep that will file documentation of the issue and hopefully if enough of us do it there will be an extension to the Tacoma. Do not get pissed at the first dumb dumb you talk to, ask for someone to discuss the issue more in depth with you.

Another one over here. 2014 with 97k. Just started over the weekend. Put a call into Toyota yesterday. He said the more calls they get for the Tacomas the better chance we have of getting this fixed. Lets keep calling!

I’ve said this before but it seems like this would be a great issue for Scotty Kilmer to make a video about. Maybe folks should hit him up with their complaints.

It is absurd the Tacoma is not part of the Toyota program

i just talked to my service advisor and brought my truck in for the tape test. a lot of the paint on all the panels are pealing mostly on the metal panels. he said that they will be painting my truck only for metal panels. anything that is plastic wont be painted. but will give me a quote on on how much extra it would be to paint.

Toyota is so inconsistent. I took my 2012 to my local dealership. They took photos and supposedly sent them to corporate. Service manager called me back after a couple of days and said they can only agree to pay for half the cost. I figured paying half was better than paying for the whole thing and I agreed.

    The more calls they get?

Or the more people join a class action lawsuit
The latter is typically how warranty extensions are created

If you are having this issue call Toyota consumer affairs (800)331-4331 and report it to them. The more complaint’s the better possibility of them comming out with a warranty extension

It’s amazing to me that ten vehicles are included in the TSB / CSP and the Tacoma is omitted. I’ve opened a case but it’s slow to move forward. It seems that the local dealer I’ve been assigned to (AutoNation in Irvine) cannot figure out how to make an indirection appointment. I’m hopeful this will not be difficult. However I’ve already reached out to an attorney specializing in these matters for a consult. If anyone has any info I should know please pass it on.

I also checked with a friend who owns a body shop and asked him about prep work. As I thought he suggested that all of the original paint would need to be removed prior to the repaint or it would peel again. Is this what’s being done when Toyota is authorizing a repair?

Anyone have any success or updates to add? After the local Toyota dealership completely ignored me I obtained an estimate for repair (complete with pictures) from a local body shop and emailed it to toys to consumer relations. Of course I’ve heard nothing in return. Is there anything else that can be done to prove to Toyota that the Tacomas with the exact same paint code and problem as those listed on the CSP ZKG bulletin should be included and addressed? I’m disappointed with Toyota to say the least.

Interesting read. Not fun to have to deal with this... Has anyone who's having this paint issue, returned their truck that was on lease? Would be interested to hear what the dealership says and then has to do to fix once the truck is back in their hands?
