My Tacoma has the EXACT same issue and placement as OP. I also have zero top coat on my roof and hood... I wrapped my truck but Tacoma hoods must be absolute UV magnets because that hood wrap is toast too. Going back to white and need solutions.... Will most likely repaint hood and wrap the roof.

Chiming in on this, as I did on another thread related to this same topic. Apparently, there are several on TW about it. Starting to experience the same flaking issues on my driver side fender ledge. Mine is a 2019 in super white.

Spoke with a rep at Toyota Customer Experience Division. Got the same response others here have mentioned, "your VIN number is not listed, but I will create a report number for you. If enough reports are made about this issue and model, it may be added for warranty support." :(

A week later went to a local body shop to have them look at the fender and generate an estimate...... $689 just for that spot and said that's the "best case scenario" if they didn't have to start pulling the bumper cover off to loosen the headlight housing, etc... If so, the cost would increase immensely.

That prompted me to reach out to a local dealership. The rep I spoke with there seemed very welcoming and willing to provide information as to what I needed to do. Sounds a lot like what others have described on here before getting the DENIED from Toyota. However, I am going to roll the dice and take it in on my next off day so the fella can take pictures, document, and send off to corporate. :fingerscrossed:

I took my 2017 Tacoma to dealer yesterday. The body shop manager too pics and did the tape test taking more paint off sent it to Toyota and it was denied. He said he’s been there since January and seen 6 vehicles with the paint flaking issue. I asked how many were covered and he said 100%. I should have asked how many were Tacomas. I called Toyota as he suggested and was told my vehicle wasn’t covered. So same story, they took my information and said they would send it to the department that tracks these complaints and said they would send me a letter if they received enough complaints. I asked to speak to someone in that department and I could not.

I am going back to dealership today to see if they will back me up. The tape test they did yesterday made it worse. I bought this truck after leasing it so I am going to ask if I had turned it in with paimt flaking would they have charged me for it.

Please call Toyota Customer Engagement at 888-270-9371 and file a complaint if you are experiencing paint flaking of white paint on your Tacoma. I feel like they may be hearing enough complaints to extend the program soon.

Just noticed this on my 2014 tacoma this morning. It wasn't like that yesterday, we had some hard/heavy rain over night.

    Toyota's quality!
Of course Toyota ignored it because everyone is still buying it, even though everyone knows Toyota's horrible paint quality, especially on the newers models.

    2011 Tacoma here.
Went to a bodyshop and told them to quote me repainting the whole truck. I plan on keeping the truck and want something on there that will last.
My concerns is, if they don't take the whole body down to the metal and just shoot over the existing factory white is the paint going to flake off under the new?
They quoted me $5,500. I couldn't imagine the cost to strip the truck and paint it.

I recently had all 4 doors and the roof on my 2015 repainted for 2600. Didn't address the engine bay at all. The paint isnt warrantied due to the fact the paint shop has seen so many super white toyotas and couldnt guarantee the base coat to stay. Full repaint was roughly 7k stripping the entire truck down to bare metal and redoing it all. They make many cool colors for their single stage trucks but metallics are the only ones worth buying due to the multiple coats of paint.

My doors frames and in the engine bay have started to peel like everyone else here. Toyota dealer told me it was obviously the same problem as the other VIN's and years but there is no recall yet for my VIN. They seemed pretty confident that it was coming and added my complaint to the list. If your truck is doing this please get the dealer to document the problem to add to the numbers

2015 a super white here, been reading these complaints for a while, had my first peel about a week ago, common spot. Midway up a rear door’s window, right up against the gasket. Will post pictures tomorrow. Been trying to find a good time to take it in to the dealer, will call corporate as well.

My passenger doors did it. I bothered the absolute shit out of the local dealership calling the service manager constantly and they repaired it. Now I’m getting peeling in the inner fender / hood area like OP. I’ll be calling back again

Shit, half of my white paint is not original, it's color match paint pen.

Toyota has never covered anything on my truck they always have an excuse "sorry, you are not the original owner" "sorry, we don't preform that TSB anymore"

I even got a letter from Toyota telling me to take it to the dealership for free leaf spring replacement, and 4 different dealerships would not honor it...

The whole bottom of my truck was peeling, so it got a layer of DuraBak.

I have some peeling on my doors But it all seems like a moot point to go after Toyota unless there’s a lawyer behind it at this point.

I plan on wrapping my truck and I just have a feeling when it’s time to remove the wrap it’s going to take paint with it

I wish I had never gotten a super white truck. It was used and color wasn’t my choice. I just didn’t know.

No brand of truck/car is going too do a repaint on a vehicle that is out of warranty ,so it's not just Toyota,Chevy has had terrible paint for the last 40years

im about to wrap my hood in some black vinyl because the hood reflecting the sun in the summer months kills my eyes! but if that ever has to be removed I'm 100% sure that my hood is going to peel with it!
