The wheel will not dictate if you might need or want to regear. It would be tire size/diameter.

The truck came with whatever the stock 15"s have, but right now, it has 265/70/17s.

You will need to look in your glove box or on the inside door pillar to see what size it came with. What are we working on?

It probably came with 31x10.5x15, your new tires are about 31.5x10.5x17. No need to regear for that.

No need to regear unless you're going to a significantly bigger tire diameter than stock. You will be fine with that size with stock gears.

bottom line is you want the same height tire when all is said and done.

find the tire size your truck had on it and see what the tire height on it was, then find a 17" tire that has that same tire height and the truck will drive exactly the same and the speedometer will still be accurate as well. if you already have 17" tires and they are close, then just make a note of the correct size you need to replace them with in a few years, but be aware your speedo will be off some if the tires aren't the right height. it should drive fine either way and you would need a drastic change in order to need to re-gear the truck.

use this chart to figure out the correct tire size you need
