I just purchased a 2009 SR5 V6 auto crew cab 4x4 with 67K. I have had it for 7 days and 99% of my driving has been interstate (cruisecontrol on 75mph). I am only getting 15 MPG and i cant figure out why. The truck's prior service records are squared away as everything has been done on schedule. I have read posts on the AFE filters and will try one out, but 15MPG??? I am thinking something else could be going on? I appreciate any advice/suggestions I can get.

A little of this and a little of that.
Check air filter and tire pressures. These trucks don't get GREAT gas mileage, but 15 seems low unless you take off like John Force.

    Too many to list now.
That's what I get in my DCLB v6, but I like to braaaap. I can get more on the highway though. 22.5 is the record high going 65, so you should probably be getting more than that.

Filters and tire pressure are tip top. This is my first ever automatic tacoma so maybe I am hard charging on the take off, all thought I don't feel like it. Worth a shot though, thanks

Might be worth finding out from the previous owner (if possible) if they changed the gear ratio or anything. 15 sounds low, especially on the highway.

15 does sound low... I bought 2007 used (70000 miles) and have gotten around 20 MPG with probably a 50/50 split of hwy/city since. I now have 100000 miles.

For doing 75 mph with that engine, that doesn't sound too far off. My '99 averaged 14-16 mpgs with a mix of highway and local roads.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Reason being, I had a 2005 Titan and a 2007 Escalade for about 2.5 years and averaged 16-17mpg in each going 75 from Houston to New Orleans several times. Those had 5.6 and 6.2 litre engines. I think he should be getting at least 19-20 on the highway.

I have 2012 DCLB with 6500 miles....just filled up 17.3 mpg back and forth to work with several stop lights and ran the air all week. Try keeping the rpms under 2000. It helped me alot ....67mph =2000 rpm on highway on my 2012 trd sport

Sounds like it could be normal, but my only comparison is my MDX.

    55 mph - 24 mpg highway
    60 mph - 21/22 mpg highway
    65 mph - 19/20 mpg highway

Speeds above that though, I suspect it falls near where you are at. Speed kills MPGs. Try slowing it down by planning an extra 15 minutes to get to your next destination. You might be surprised at the MPGs you could realize.

Original tire size? Putting on bigger tires wth more agressive tread cuts MPGs.

With 245 tires I get anywhere from 20-22 mpg @ 70mph and that's spinning almost 2600 rpm on my six speed. An auto with 265s should be in that same ballpark, provided it has been maintained with fluid changes and such.

09 V6 auto SR5 A/C 4X4 Hankooks 265/70/16 filled up yesterday and 21.42 mpg. That is my average, 35500 miles on it have owned since it had 15 miles on it.I feel that your speed is the key factor in this.

I got 19-20 in my 05 DCLB with 265/75/16s, 15-16 in my 07 DCSB 4x4 running 33 12.50 tires, and My 2012 DCSB with 265/70/16s has averaged 19 since I got it. I drive around the same speed that you posted and probably 60/40 Highway miles. I just make sure I accelerate slowly. If you aren't taking off too fast and don't live in a hilly environment then your numbers are pretty low.

try slowing down a bit and see what happens to your mileage, also is the truck completely stock?
