I trashed one of my stock alloy wheels on my 2006 TRD Sport. Looking to get new wheels, but nothing too flashy or fancy, since I have 250,000 miles on a 15 year old truck.

    1. Is there any downside or performance difference going down to 16 inch wheels? The tires will cost less, but I don't want to go downward in quality or performance.

    2. The lease expensive option would be to get one matching wheel if there are any out there. Is there a source for them?

    Thanks

Ideally you want to make your wheel/tire combo as light as possible, for best mpgs/performance/braking. Lightersetups tend to be more common with a 17" wheel size. So be sure to look the wheel tire weight as a whole in evaluating your setup. I specifically swapped 16->17 to get the weight down. See this thread to help aid in choosing a wheel/tire combo:

I went from a 17 inch wheel w/ 265/65/17 to a 16 inch wheel w/ 265/75/16 so I can get an extra 2 inches of sidewall. I also prefer 16 inch rims because I like the small wheel big tire look rather than the small tire big wheel. The downside is tires for 16 inch rims usually weigh more because there is more rubber. However it almost cancels out anyway since the wheel will be somewhat lighter compared to a 17 inch.
