Bought a S.A.M. 1911 Commander, now I need recommendations on where to buy magazines, and what brand.

I have 2 kimber 8rnd mags, 2 chip McCormick 8 rnd mags and factory Springfield 7rnd mag. The chips are good, never failed me, but the kimber mags are definitely real good quality.

My personal favorite mags for 1911's are Chip McCormick & Wilson Combat.

    Since we're doing pics:

You guys have a lot nicer guns than mine. Any opinions on checkmate magazines?

Yeah, don't buy 'em. A semi-auto firearm is only as good as the magazine used to feed it. Stick with one of the two I mentioned. A cheap or unknown mag is a good way to make a $3k firearm run like a $100 firearm. Conversely, there isn't a mag made that will make a $100 firearm run like a $3k firearm.

Maybe my screen is too low resolution, but what the heck is on the end of the recoil spring plug?

I use the Kimber mags also, I get them cheap at a local pawn shop. My springer just b/c.

Second this, mccormick and wilson. Those are the only 2 I use anymore except for a picky 10mm I have, that one takes metalforms. BTW awesome gun that springer operator, on my list. Here's one of mine:

Thanks man. I dig it. I've got a 10-8 flat trigger bar I need to install to go with the other 10-8 parts I've already installed whenever I'm done being lazy. It's a pretty solid shooter when I do my part.

Tripp research cobra mags is what i like to use. Ran flawless in my springfield trp for the last 1500 rounds, the Chip McCormick 10 rounder i had would stovepipe half the time. Put a Tripp research follower and spring into it and it runs awesome now. It just sucks it can only hold 9 rounds. Never shot the wilson combats out of my gun but they are one of the best too.

Thank you sir. It's had some love and affection applied to it over the years in terms of work/parts and keeps on giving in return in terms of accuracy and flawless function.

The holster is from www.ColoradoHolster.com and are the ONLY holster I go with now. I've run Raven Concealment and a few of the other kydex brands and it's on-par with the big names with a lower price tag and lightning fast shipment times. The first holster I got from Steve (who is also a member here and owns a pretty bad ass DCSB Tacoma as well as some other kick ass toys) was in my hands within days when RCS was running a 3 month wait time.
