1989 pick up starts sometimes please help

    i have a 1989 toyota 4by4 i started having problems with it starting all the time it always turns over fine just doesnt always start. i changed coil,distributor cap, rotor,plug wires and it still does the same thing. If i spray starter fluid in the intake it starts somtimes and runs fine somtimes i spray it it starts with up and runs rough a little while and kills please help

    Check to make sure your getting fuel. If you spray starter fuid in there and it runs, it makes me think that its your fuel pump. Try changing your fuel filter first. If that doesnt help your probably going to need to replace your fuel pump.

    nope shore didnt yet when it was still doing it after i changed all that i thought it might have been a fuel problem then??

    But be careful with the starting fluid because if you use it too much the motor will become dependant upon it. Just a heads up.

    after i spray starter fluid it runs fine after it gets goin would it do that if its the fuel pump??

    Yes it would but I would still start with the fuel filter because 1 its cheaper and 2 it cant hurt. Your filter might be too clogged and it cant get the initial PUSH through. After it Starts, there is also a draw coming from the other side. I would buy both and do the filter first, if that fixes it, then return the fuel pump. If not, replace the pump. Hope this helps!

    I am agree with Spike884, start with the cheapest first. Do not open the fuel pump box until you have tried the filter first. It will be easier to return if not needed.
