1991 Toyota Hilux 4x4 Build

That always is a disappointment when you find out you could have done the work yourself.

 

This is for sale in a town near some of my family members abroad. Model year 2002 with the 1kz-te. 180,000 km. It still has many years to go before USA legal but it is so tempting to look into buying it.

 

Here is a 2003. This one has a bit less km and looks to be put together a little better. It has engine pictures which I think are great to see.

I'm trying to save these and post them here since eventually the for sale ads go away and the pictures get lost.

 

This is a 2001 with the 122k km. It is super clean. This is the 3L 2.8L motor so the non-turbo. I really like the back seat bench with the headrests.

 

Ballpark prices converted to cash were about $9,000 for the red, $12,000 for the two white ones. I believe the export process would be a nightmare.

The nice thing with these is they all come with a/c. It is rare to see them without. I know many South American Land Cruisers and European models didn't come with a/c.

 

I see this post is still active this year, thought I'd throw a couple pics of mine up here, just received it here in June. I went through a JDM dealer. Didn’t know much about the process of importing and figured I’d screw myself over if I tried it myself. I contacted this dealer in Florida (they also have a cool ’88 pictured below) because I saw they had a nice Surf for sale and asked if they see many of the double cab pickups, because I couldn’t find many if any. They had just happened to get both, the grey ’88 and the white ‘91 I ended up purchasing, in just a few weeks prior to me contacting them. It’s a 1991 LN107 2.8L 5 speed manual. They worked with me and sent me all pictures and videos I asked for over about a month span. They ended up painting the wheels white and putting some KO2s on. The owner in Japan had replaced the front seats with a couple racing type seats, and replaced the radio with a new media player unit. Besides that it’s basically all stock w/ 82,000ish miles. I decided I couldn’t not get it and ended up purchasing it without ever seeing it in person. Had it shipped up to me in Ohio (about 1.5 hrs west of Pitt.) shortly after. So far I’ve just done my best to rustproof. I took it into a detail shop had them spray CF Formula 3000 underneath and into the frame and behind all body panels and basically everywhere. They did some minor paint correction and patched some dings in the spray in bed liner and then ceramic coated the entire body. I also had them do window tint the whole way around. I would love to get some stripes put on like you see a lot of them, including yours have, different wheels and tires, and possibly some other things like a lift but for now I’m happy keeping it as it is for awhile.

 

I've been collecting RF1A transfer cases to send to trail-gear. Right now they are paying $400 a core since they have disappeared from the West Coast. I just shipped 9 spares picked up over the past years and am working on building another stockpile to send another batch. They are literally getting turned into scrap in many places so if you have a local pull-it yard or wrecker offering them cheap buy them.



I found a good sale on a warn bumper.

Unfortunately was made for IFS so need to cut two square holes into the brackets for the front axle spring perches. I was really hoping for bolt on without modification. But it attaches at so many points in the frame compared to any other bumper on the market
