    Hi All,

My Tacoma truck production date on the door is 04/95. My title says the year is "1996", I bought the truck used from a dealer, so they took care of all the title paperwork. My truck is 2.7L 4WD Auto with access cab, manual locking front hubs, ECT, and Overdrive. From everything I've read my transmission is the A430F, is this right? For parts purposes is my truck a 1996 or 1995? I ask because I want to drop the transmission pan and put in a new filter, according to a few docs the 95.5 is different from the 96 in filter and gasket (vs sealant). Is this right?

    Thanks!

    Josh

There's no difference between 1995.5 and 1996 Tacomas in basic maintenance items or mounting.

If your production date was April 1995 it's possible the Taco was eventually sold as a 1996 model. Toyota didn't get the new truck line launched until halfway through the traditional 1995 model year. I've seen claims that a lot of 1995-built trucks were held over and sold as 1996's.

Because the earlier Hilux-type 'Toyota truck' was sold into the 1995 model year, there are such things as Toyota mini pickups that aren't Tacomas.

However, many vendors and manufacturers mistakenly list the first Tacoma model year as '1995' rather than 1995.5'.

    If you'd like to double-check the official model year, find the 10th character in your VIN. If it's 'S' it's a 1995 / 1995.5. If it's 'T' it's a 1996.
