Still going strong... not the most beautiful but I don't care and still love it. I think it actually drives better than my 2015 V6

    Bump

Where are the rest of the 95s hiding

I have a 1996, maybe a 95.5, I don’t know. It was a theft recovery shortly after it was new and the thieves striped it. There are no visible factory VINS. The CHP/DMV has assigned new #’s that are worthless. Consequently getting parts via VIN is impossible. So, having explained that, what, if any are the differences between a 95.5 and 96. It does have the chrome wheel well moldings whereas non of my other Tacomas do.

Does anyone know where the “hidden” vin is located if there is such a thing?

    Her at home in Cabo.

I'll add another, brought this one back from the dead.

Murphy is an 03/95, Base, 4x4, 2.7L, 5 Spd, with manual hubs, AC, a Tach gauge cluster, with a Blue gray interior, currently sits at about 179,500 miles, Truck was originally registered in Phoenix AZ, and stayed there most of its life until I brought it to Utah last year.

When I got it the head gasket had failed, and there was a lot of work that needed to be undone and re-done. It is ongoing, but that is what we love about these old trucks.

I'll join in 1996 2wd with a 10/95 build Date, 201,125miles, paradise blue all original California truck, no mods whatsoever. Not perfect has its fair share of bumps and bruises all around but love the fact that it's unmolested. Planning just a minor lift and some big tires nothing major.

Me too. 1995.5 2wd Extracab. 4/95 build date. 178,000 miles. Acquired a couple of months ago from a friend who couldn't drive anymore. Needed a lot of TLC to get it looking like it does. Texas truck in Evergreen pearl.1995 Tacoma.jpg

Mine pretty much has it's VIN# on every piece of glass, fenders under the hood, haven't checked the back fenders, but I was surprised how many there were especially the glass, windshield, door glass and the swing out glass on the extended part.

1995.5 taco dubbed “frankentaco” after rolling on trail, custom flatbed, lifted, currently running 32’s, upgraded diffs to 4.10 (original way too small). It’s a 2.7L w/ 240k miles and I think the VIN says it’s within the 1st 600 trucks produced. People say it’s the same as a 96 but one difference I have found is smaller cam bolts, nothing fit so I bought fresh ones from the dealer and ground them down to fit. Currently prepping for HHO install.

Not that it really matters, but mine is listed as an AT truck but it's actually a MT truck. (Post #6). Also has the J shift T-case which doesn't seem to be too common on the early SR5 models?

Here's a recent pic with the bumper I welded up.

Just went back through this thread and stumbled upon my own posts from 2019, which I'd completely forgotten about :rofl:Sorry for double posting.

I'm surprised to see so few of these with Sierra Beige paint (code 4m4). I have this crazy idea that I'll dive into repainting mine someday, and that'd be my pick for a color.

Also, super jealous of all you SR5 guys with these seats.

Anyone know the original price for AC, if it was available separately. I see here it was part of a 'Value Package', including chrome bumpers and sliding rear window, for $1690!

    Happy Motoring, Mark D.

My '96 base, std-cab model, w' no AC - until I added it!
    Condenser, compressor & lines installed.
    Finally - The Magic Button!

Anyone know if rear speakers were available on standard-cabs?
My '96 came with a dead Sony CD-radio and cheap, fat, aftermarket 6x9 particle-board speaker boxes deck-screwed to the rear cab wall. After I replaced the radio, with the seat adjusted for best legroom, all they did was boom and rattle the cab. It acually sounded much better adjusted for just the door speakers. Crappy speakers are now gone - replaced by a pair of 45 watt 2-way RS Optimus metal-case, zip-tied to the floor. Maybe not the very best sound in the world, but now I enjoy having 4 speakers!

    Happy Motoring, Mark

    Radio-Shack Optimus speakers - Flea-market $12
    Replacenent Sony CD-radio - Pick-N-Pull $20

Joined to add my 08/95 Tacoma to the list. 4x4 AT V6 248k. I've never seen a 4x4 decal like mine on another 95. Fairly certain it came from the dealer as it has a matching bug catcher with the same 4x4 embossed in. Badging is also gold which I also think is exclusive to 95/96. Some of the plastic on the door badging has gotten banged up and gotten holes- I don't know how I am going to fix it but I'd like to restore those trim pieces as they are hard to come by.
