1995 model. The first of the first gen, when Toyota was still exited to make for the first time something different for US market then for the rest of the world. When they did care, when they made mistakes while learning. When they did not know if it is a hit or miss.

They are the true gems. Eaten by rust, crushed by Toyota warranty, killed by drunk drivers. After 24 years how many are there still in running conditions? No matter what trim or model as long as it's registered, road worthy and driven (not a garage queen or pile of scrap metal). Post your model, month of build (from your VIN sticker), drive-terrain, current miles (or km if Canada), engine size, transmission type, of locking hubs type (if 4x4). Don't forget to include picture too. No picture, no count :). PM me if you want to update your data posted below.

Till post # 866 the official count is 95 trucks out of 123,257 sold.

Here is my first and only truck I ever owned. I bought it in California 1998 used (could not afford to spend more than 12k that time). VIN plate shows manufacturing date 06/95. It is 4x4 extended cab with 2.7 engine, manual transmission and manual locking hubs. Bought it with 70k miles, now it shows 337k. How it was then:
    upload_2019-2-20_9-0-26.jpg

and now in 2021 I still use it as my DD (in Poland).

I have two, one of which was likely made in the first month of production May 1995. Both are 4x4 auto, one with 156,000, 2.7 ADD and the other with 255,000, 3.4 manual L/Os, factory side steps (removed in pic). Both are pretty much stock except 16" wheels/tires I've found on CL.

The green (2.7L) one was rusted in every possible location when I got it. Basically, it has new metal everywhere except hood, doors, and roof: New rockers, fenders, bedsides, tailgate, bumpers, and grille. Bed was extensively fiber glassed inside then liner installed. Mechanical replacements included tank, fuel/brakes lines, brakes, LBJs/tie rods, and distributor. Frame has been repaired in numerous areas and fluid filmed.

The gray (3.4L) was wrecked and sitting at the gate to a salvage yard when I bought it. Left front was destroyed: new hood, fender, radiator, condenser, dryer, grille, bumper/valance, etc. Not painted yet, that's why I have right side picture below, haha. Still needs valve cover gaskets and some gen maintenance items. Leaking right on the exhaust manifold on both sides. Frame is nearly perfect (S Tennessee/no salt truck).

I have AT tire sets (original 15"rims) for both for Winter driving. They will see minimal off road. I have about $6000 invested between the two: maybe a little too much in the 2.7L; below market value in the 3.4L. So, I am in decent shape $$$ wise.

I got my 95.5 in 2002 when I was 16. Only had 56k miles on it and was my first car. SR5/limited model with a 5 speed manual trans. Did a manual hub swap years ago, had the first set of production King coilovers, custom Deavers, and other minor mods but mostly my stock daily driver. Manufacture date is 06/95.

If you feel like reading a long story on my purchase, here it is: Took four months to find the right one, which for a 16 year old who just got their license is testament to my patience! I would go to the gas station every Tuesday to pick up the latest Autotrader looking for "the one". I had a 4' high stack by the time I found this. I remember the day I did it was on kbb.com which had newspaper ads the day before they were printed. Saw this on there, called up and set an appointment to see it the next morning. I was living with my aunt and I remember we were trying to leave to go check it out and the garage door spring broke... She freaked as she was in this quest with me. Ended up finally lifting the garage door up (suckers are heavy with no spring assist!). The truck was owned by a Cambodian woman and her husband who only used it as a grocery and nursery getter. It was an easy sell. I didn't even know how to drive a manual and was doing burnouts on the way home or stalling it. Lol.

Had an exhaust on it on it until I wanted quiet again. Had a K&N intake before I realized how junk they were. Was lifted until I got older and wanted a smoother ride. I sound old now...

Still have to this day with over 306k miles. It's not had the easiest life (pizza deliveries, city driving, working at a mine) and has gone through several phases, but I'm finally restoring some elk collision damage (fender and door mostly) and replacing a lot of parts pretty much all with OEM.

It only ever let me down one time when a spark plug electrode dropped from the plug and rattled around in the cylinder last year. Got a borescope with magnet attachment, fished out the pieces, and it runs like a top still.

The last pic is its current state. Kind of wish I kept the side decals now. Lol

    Love this truck...

Yes! I also saw that Toyota still had it listed as a part number but not sure it's actually available. Once I find a new fender and door and have bodywork and paint done I might have to get those. The green and purple retro 90's decals are hip again. At least for me. Ha

When I was buying my Tacoma I did not know squat about this truck. I wanted 4x4 pickup, and not American one (I already learned about US cars bad quality). I looked at Nissan but I did not like the the jump sits and my wife did not like the face . So Tacoma it was. I was particularly looking for truck I can fix myself so I set my scope on 4 cyl and 5 speed MT. The less gadgets it has, the better. And we found this one. It was smiling at my wife, so she approved it :). Dealer wanted 17500 for it and 5 hours later we settled on 14k with the condition that the dealer will find me a financing for the full amount minus $500 down payment.

Two weeks later I got a call from Financing manager they they did not find anyone who would give me the loan that was needed. In 5 minutes we made a solution that I give additional 1k down and he drops the price by another 2k. That was enough to get me financed. I was so pissed. I spent 5 hours negotiating the price playing "good salesrep, bad manager" game for the last couple hundreds dollars, and that Financing manager took 2k of the price in 5 min phone call.

But I got my truck, and never regretted it. Just before I moved to Poland I was offered 5k for it, but I couldn't let it go. Against all financial reasons I put this truck into shipping container and sailed all the way from Oakland, CA to Gdynia in Poland. And I hope it will serve me for the rest of my life.:fingerscrossed:

I bought my 95 back in 2014 from the second owner with a hydro-locked motor and in completely stock form. I bought it with the intentions of building a trail truck and truly didn't realize what had fallen into my lap for $1k. 3.4, 5 speed, not a single speck of rust anywhere. I almost feel bad for cutting it up and beating on it :D. It's got right around 250k miles on the truck now (less on the motor and some other parts), has never left me stranded, even after being flopped on its side twice.

Love mine. 95 obviously, my build date on the sticker says May 1995, so it must have been relatively early off the line. Every factory option I think (minus AT), still have the sunroof cover. Total time capsule. Currently 128k on the clock, PO drove it and maintained it until 106k.

Mine about 2 years ago before I sold it. I've got a 04 now. Truck had over 315k miles on it and still going strong.

This is @Jamesboy2233's truck, it's been through several crashes, and a flood. But guess what? That thing is still driving perfectly fine.mcallenflood.jpg 20180722_185426.jpg
