When looking at the thrust bearing you see some wear, but it looks normal for a manual transmission truck.

I tried to take some good pictures of the cylinders. Lighting was difficult to get right to capture what I was seeing. Here is what I have and I can try for better if you ask what cylinder specifically.

Well, after @BillDaCat8 suggestion, I went back out to the garage. Took apart the oil pump assembly. Here are the pictures.

Have been running Royal Purple HPS.
When I was doing the oil change and found this I put Liquid Moly in it.

None of the oils have ever had a shine to them. Just purple or green when new.

Both cam timings off? Chain idle gear and tensioners look ok?

OP As you well know the magic ingredient in a successful rebuild is time. I liken it to removing the problems out of the way until you have no more issues that need to be resolved. If you do everything right and you are then everything will come together and work out just fine. Nice writeup thus far with most excellent pictures.
When I rebuilt my 2.7 3RZ FE I had to pack the oil pump with grease to create and maintain prime, giving the oil pump the ability to pump. I didn't the first time and at first start up I had no oil pressure.

I am thinking the same thing. But what happens if not? Something in the oil?

How do the VVT filters look? If the oil rings are that clogged, then those have to be pretty clogged as well.

All of rotating surfaces look really good considering it's prior life.

Have you found any concern-ably sized metal shavings in your tear-down yet?

By the way, I lost the thrust bearings in one engine. When swapping it out for a built engine, I found that fact out, while it was on the engine stand. The engine was using the main cap as the thust washer. Even raced with the engine like that. Oil still didn't come out as glittery as yours.

I have the day off today, so I will recheck everything and I will inspect the VVT screens. The screens are something I did not think to check or clean out. I will be taking the head to the machine shop and have cleaned and checked.

Send out a sample of the oil to have tested and see what exactly that stuff is?
