Engine is in the bay, now parked inside garage. Gotta get it all buttoned up over the next couple of weeks. Too much work and too little time for fun. Have a daily driver so I’ve been taking my time.

Have an 05 Tundra waiting for an engine. I recently picked up another engine from an 08 FJ Cruiser. Engine has about 100k miles and needs the oil pans swapped and then installation to the Tundra. I would like to do this myself but am willing to offer work to anybody who can do this job for me. I live in Ventura county of SoCal.

Can you do this without removing the driveshaft and leave the trans in position?

I’m getting close to hooking the hoist to my ‘07 4wd V6. I’ve got the power steering pump and A/C compressor unbolted and set aside without opening the lines for either. Hoping someone could confirm or deny if that will work. Plan is to leave the trans in place. Thanks

Yep, I never touched ac lines, just unbolted from the engine and let it sit there while I pulled the engine out

Awesome, thanks, it looks like there’s enough room. What has to happen with the transmission? I’ve got the TC unbolted, hoping to support the bellhousing and leave it in place, is that feasible?

I had to drop mine, get the engine in, and then put the transmission back. Tried to just drop the new engine in but couldn’t do it with the transmission still in place :(

I have a trans jack. Pull the shifter or whatever, then drop the drive shaft, and slide the trans back for clearance. If that is too difficult, then drop the trans.

This was a great tip! I took out both bolts from the top after taking off the intake manifold with an extended flex head ratchet, a 17mm six sided socket so less likelihood of stripping the bolt, and a 3 foot long cheater bar for extra leverage. It was a royal pain in the ass but much better than trying to take them out with a bunch of long extension on my back.
