I also have a 3" lift up front and 1.5" rear and I started getting vibes aswell. Axle shims fixed some of them but I still have vibes from like 60-70 and in H4 at like 50. Guess i need to consider doing this on mine.

If the vibration is still present in H4, then you should probably look into something else first. I know when I had this issue going into H4 got ride of the vibes. Taken from first post: the vibrations disappear the instant you switch from H2 to H4.

Does the vibration go away when in H4 for you?

Oh ok, thanks. I've just been looking at different things trying to figure out what it could possibly be.

For sure. It was driving me nuts when it happened on my previous truck (02 DC). Tried rotating/balancing tires, swapped front axles to known good ones, took it to a Toyota "Specialist" shop, still nothing. Before I was pointed to this thread by one of the members here, I thought this only existed on 2nd gens.

On my current truck (02 EC), no such vibrations and I swapped parts from one truck to the other. Good luck diagnosing your vibrations. If you get specific enough, I'm sure someone will chime in with an answer.

I have been getting the vibration for a while now, i greased the zerks, re did my brakes and tires, but it was still there. The other day i put it in 4HI to see if it would make a difference, and the vibration went away which is what got me to this thread. Are there any write ups, or 1st gen How to videos that have a lot of detail? Also my driveshaft bearing (towards the rear of the truck) has a little play in it, bit i didnt think that would cause the vibrations because i feel it under my feet when i drive. All info as always, is much appreciated!

I know this is a old Thread but, has anyone experienced this noise while Decelerating or only accelerating? i hear it both ways but its definitely louder when i let my foot off the gas.
4WD completely takes it away like others have stated.. thanks, and sorry for the Bump on a old thread !

Bumping an old thread to see if any of the puller tools are still around/for sale?

I'm about to get the bushing and do this to mine.

As for the last post re: growling, on mine its any time between ~10 and ~20mph, kinda a whirring/vrrmvrrmvrrm sound like a badly worn tire. Most noticeable coasting/decel, though its probably just covered up by engine noise accelerating. Goes away as soon as 4wd kicks in.

There was one in the 2nd gen F/s/t. Not sure if they're the same as 1st gen.

I did the fix for the front end, and while it fixed the vibration issue mine went a little bit deeper.
The real issue for me was to much backlash on my rear differential that was causing the whining i was hearing. I'd Check that if youre having similar symptoms to mine.

I have had this slight vibration for over 100,000 miles and can’t figure out what its from. Just comes on at 20 mph and goes away at 30 mph,

That may be this issue or the center carrier bearing. Do you feel it from the steering wheel or the seat? Either way it's not a bad idea to check both for play.

Its from the front, I can feel it in the steering wheel ever-so-slightly i had the dealer inspect the front bearings and they said they are fine, no carrier bearing in reg cab

My bearing was pretty bad so there was a fairly noticeable difference between my passenger and driver sides. Does your dealer generally have good techs?

I would assume so, I don’t want to throw money at stuff that doesn’t need repairing. I guess I will
just keep driving it till it changes in vibration as nothing has changed in 100,000 miles.
I see there was another member that changed the spindle and it didn’t change anything.
There’s no difference in 4x4 or 2 wheel drive

I have been tracking down a vibe for some time. Thinking carrier, wheel bearing etc. I’m 99% sure this is my problem and will be ordering the part this week.

Anyone have a puller for sale?

Edit: thanks @mechanicjon for pointing me to this thread!

The vibration I had ended up being in my tires.
Even though I had them balanced every 5000 miles.
My tires were half worn and decided to get new tires. Just like that the vibration was gone.

Don’t understand it as the tires were still in great shape and never thought it was a balance issue
    that wasn’t fixable

I’ve got the removal tool, didn’t buy the install since I work in a shop somewhat. Just changed my bearing out a couple weeks ago. Paid $45 for it would do $30 shipped. There was some floating around that people were loaning out as long as you passed it on when finished but I couldn’t locate one. Pm me if interested

I just bought an '03. The previous owner installed Fox 2.5 adjustable coil overs in front but was only using the Firestone Ride-Rite airbags for lift in the rear. I didn't really care for the idea of using the airbags for a lift since that's not what they were designed for, so installed All Pro leaf springs (non expedition).

Here's were my vibration trouble started. I drove the truck for ~1000 miles before the new leaf springs and had no vibrations. Immediately after installing the leaf springs I got the vibrations. My initial suspicion was that the drive shaft/pinion/rear diff angles were causing my vibrations because they weren't there before. I didn't change anything with the front, only added the leaf springs. After stumbling across this thread, though, I'm wondering if this could be my problem.

    A couple questions:

Are others seeing something similar to this (i.e. no vibes with front-only lift, then getting vibes when adding a rear lift)?

For the 4H test, are you driving in 4H on paved roads? I thought that Toyota frowned upon driving in 4WD on pavement... Are you putting the truck into 4H while stopped then getting up to speed? Or are you going from 2H to 4H while moving?

Are ADD more susceptible to this issue than manual hubs? Or does it not matter at all?

This kinda sucks because I had both a '95 and a '96 for many years without any issues...

    Thanks.
