Need to revive this thread. I have a grinding noise on my 2000 Taco when the front diff is engaged. I have manual hubs and the grinding remains when the hubs are not locked in. There is no noise when the truck is in 2wd, only when I put it in 4 wheel high. I thought it might be the front diff bearing that is going bad, but, also considering it might be the wheel bearing but, like I said, there is no noise when I just drive it around in 2wd. The manual hubs are the factory ones and show no signs of wear. The CV axle also doesn't show any outside signs of wear. There is minimal vibration when driving at highway speeds. Any ideas?

I searched for and skimmed pages for any reference to the ECGS bushing causing interference with a locker due to it being slightly longer. I’ve got the classic symptoms of a rurnt needle bearing and would like to be one and done with their bushing. I suppose it could be cut down to the length of the bearing.

Anyone know if it’ll work with a lunchbox style locker?

I emailed ECGS and received a reply. It reads wrong but we know what he meant.

Having already ordered the bushing I did not prepare myself for the job. I had one of those junky axle bushing pullers that’s similar style to what ECGS sells (that I didn’t order). Bushing shows up and my axle pullers are useless. I have a set of those birds beak spud bar type sets from harbor fright and the medium one worked for a 1/4” or so by prizing from the back. In frustration I removed all the bearing and proceeded to smash it with a sharpened chisel and punch. After cracking some of the face off I realized I could possibly slip a large washer into the empty race. I did and it worked using a long bolt and pried it off with my ball joint pickle fork. The mechanic gods smiled in my favor today. Beat the bushing in using my 2# shop hammer as dead weight and swinging my 8# hammer against it lightly. Went in straight and took maybe 10 blows to reach depth.
