Installed the ECGS bushing yesterday and vibration is now gone! Now to address the rear diveline vib at high speeds.. if any one is interested in the tool, message me. Its modified now for easier removal of bearing (sucks that they sell you something that doesnt work right away).. Anyway my head ache is your gain.. Ill let it go for $40 (paid 60)

After taking it for a drive and letting it sit, I noticed a small leak from the diff at the CV axle. New seal was installed. Maybe the axle is not sitting back far enough? It seemed to not leak once the gear oil cooled off (size of the puddle on the driveway didn't change for two days after I noticed it).

I noticed that the bushing from ECGS was substantially longer (1/4" or so) than the OEM needle bearing. Was this the case for everyone else? I hammered it in (bearing race driver) until the sound changed and it would not move any further. CV went into place normally also...

No leak after my install.. And you are right bushing is slightly longer. Make sure axle is fully seated in the diff. Also check the axle seal make sure it's square

I have a NIB, unopened bearing and modified removal tool that I bought on here for $95 for both shipped if any one wants to do this.

I ended up buying a new, regeared third from ECGS and they installed the bearing in house for me. Never needed the bearing and tool that I bought. Save you about $40 with shipping.

I would assume so. It was for my 03. I don't think there is a difference, ECGS doesn't show a different part number for any of the 1st gens.

So you guys aren't talking about wheel bearings? You are talking about diff bearings? I have 232,735 mikes on my 04 4x4 and it vibrates off and on not constant. I have 3" Eibach could with Bilstein adjustable on the 2nd setting no maintenance records on the bearings. I know they have to be pressed in so how can I tell if it is the wheel bearings or something else. Just rotate the hub and see if it makes noise?

Does the vibration go away when you go into 4hi? That really helped me narrow down the issue to being the diff bearing.

Push up and down on the inside part of cv and look for play inside the diff. If wheel bearing is getting bad it may make noise, get hot, or if its real bad itl have slop

Going to replace my CVs when I do the needle bearing replacement. Any suggestion on CV brand. I've looked at AZ, AAP, Napa and Rock Auto. Are they all pretty much the same, just different packaging?

    Thanks

I went with Napa axles (brand new and not the reman'd ones) on my current truck. I ran Napa reman'd on my previous truck when I first got it. After almost a year the inner boot tore on the drivers side, then I found a tear on the passenger side inner boot a week later. I then went with the new axles and it's been well over a year (previous truck is still in the family) and still no tears/issues.

Do you have a lift on your truck? If so how much? What do your CV angles look like?
