I don't believe the drive shaft patterns are the same. I suggest you call up East Coast Gear Supply and ask, they are very knowledgeable on the subject. I had to get a double drilled flange for my 99 and I believe that the other bolt patter is for the 2nd gen 3rd. They told me that the stock 29 spline flanges for my year bolt pattern are rare but do exist.

Yeah I spoke to Chase at ECGS and it fits. Only need the flange if the diff is 2002 or older. 2003 & 2004 will boot right up to the 2nd gen drive shaft. Mistery solved.

Did this project turn out okay for you? Were you able to bolt the 1st gen elocker 3rd right into the 2nd gen axle and have it all work out fine?

the Elocker part of the housing hasn’t changed since they’ve been introduced with the exception of the 2016* tacos.

I guess, more or less what I’m asking is:
I have a 2012 DCSB TRD OR. I realize the rear 3rd member is 8” w/ elocker, but I’ve been trying to find out specifically which models, years, etc. would basically direct plug and play into my rear axle housing. So far (from this thread) I’ve learned that the 03-04 TRD OR Tacoma 3rd member will plug and play, but I’m trying to just learn which all would be able to do so. I plan on only trying to use 4.10 gear ratio just because I have 285/75r17 and drive from Indiana to Mississippi and back every few weeks from school to home. Ive researched the past couple of weeks on this topic and most threads are of non TRD OR trucks, and the ones that are TRD OR, the thread was never updated with results. (Forgive me if I misspoke on any information, Literally all I know about this topic is the little I’ve read the past few weeks.) But any help or direction is much appreciated.

they should all be plug and play. The only difference is the drive shaft bolt pattern which was mentioned above. That can easily be overcome by drilling the flange to match the new pattern. The motors for the elocker and the diff lock indicator switch from first gen taco all the way to the end of the 2nd gen years are all the same connectors.
