In your opinion would this even be worth it?

I have a 8.4, bought an elocker 8.0" off craigslist. Locker works fine, tested it, but the housing must be bent because even after swapping axle seals and bearings the driver side is gritty as hell.

Dont know if it's worth having a shop try to mod my 8.4 to accept the 8.0" or just go a different route and accept my new paper weight

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
I’d just find a proper elocker housing. Modifying will cost a fair bit unless you do it yourself.

Those were my thoughts, I couldn't find any record of guys putting the factory elocker in a 8.4, just into a non locked 8.0.

All the aftermarket axle housing dont seem to have abs and would also be a ton of fab work from what I could tell.

I looked for 5 years for this one :facepalm:the wait continues lol...

Why not just put an arb or something in the axle you have?

    or delete the abs system

All the elocker housings are ABS weather they have it or not. I have a non abs equipped TRD and it had the blank out plates for the sensor and the tone rings on the shaft. Finding one of those housings would be the quickest and cheapest route. I remember someone waaaaay back in the day on TTORA modifying a non elocker housing for an elocker and it was an assload of work to do it. One of those only do it if you want some sort of internet cred type projects.

I've been researching ARB and the aftermarket electric Harrup to throw in the 8.4 after it seemed like this one wasnt gonna work.

Doesnt seem worth it to mod the 8.4 to accept the locker or even find an 8.0 nonlocked and convert..

I thought of buying one of the trail gear rear axle housings, but them would have to fab up abs, suspension mounts, brake lines, etc it seems.

I'll try to keep my eyes out for an 8.0 that was setup for a locker, whether functioning or not since I have a working locker but no where to put it haha

Modifying an aftermarket housing would be REALLY easy to accept ABS. Just need the abs shafts and drill holes the accept the sensors. It does use a different type of seal so you would have to call whomever you are getting the housing from up and have them build the axle that way. If they cant do that, I would not buy a housing from them as that should be really easy to accomplish when building the housing for you.

Stock elocker housing would be easiest anyway. No welding required either.

Lol I was wondering what a new one would cost, thanks!

All said and done that new housing (+costs I'm in it so far), ARB or the harrup would all be in the $1600-$1800 range.

Seems if I can get the trail gear housing for about $600 and see what it would be to add abs, suspension mounts, and brake lines, might be the best bet.

I like the idea of grabbing a elocker housing used but the odds of finding one seem slim and even if I do, there's a chance its f'd up like the one I swooped :annoyed:

Starting packing up, slowly and inefficiently, here in Humboldt. Heading down to the SF Bay Area Saturday. Dear old dad has major spinal surgery on Monday and so, some time after that I will be ready. Maybe we can all converge at Tyler's @BartMaster1234 and annoy his neighbors :headbang:

Could sell it out in the SF Bay Area to some hipster coffee/brewing company joint looking for a "rustic" feel. Throw in an old barn door and you could probably charge them a few grand for it
