that being said, my frame was clearly put together by two people, one who could weld, one who could not. i may go through the whole thing and clean up all the slag and have it painted before it goes under the truck

After I'm done with my '99, I'll probably move on to a 2nd gen Taco.

My father MAY be buying a spare frame for the 02 tacoma Inside the frame is fucking clean, the outside is super crusty (it was wax coated when new)

A rust free 2nd gen with a 1gr under the hood is a testament to the "Toyota=bulletproof" line of thought. Damn good trucks.

If I had the means, I'd 2uz & SAS swap a 2nd gen Taco and run it into the ground.

the 2nd gen is just as reliable as the 1st gen. contrary to popular belief. yes the 3.4 is a bulletproof motor. but the 4.0 is too. not as forgiving with not changing oil, but you should be changing your oil Our parts truck has 340k on the ODO its a 07 tundra with the 4.0 and the 5 speed 2WD trans.

ive been keeping an eye out for a wreaked reg cab 2nd gen... for a 2uz swap and putting a 3rd gen front end on and back end, Why? because it would be literally one of a kind

All I’m doing is telling the ECU is upstream heater is still working. I didn’t delete anything, I still have a cat. My AFR gauge took over the factory sensor.

Just avoid the 05 - 06 4.0s, didn't they have a head gasket issue that would blow around 125k miles

Dare I say the 3rd gen too. Seems all the "issues" is just nitpicking owners wanting the perfect vehicle. Havent read of very many catastrophic failures, if any.

na. it is true alot of early 4.0s are having head gasket issues.. but its still a stupid small number.

the real reason to avoid those is the motor mount issue.

while theyre not nearly as bad as people say, they are less reliable than the 2nd gens. at least ive noticed at work, ive had to replace 5 transmissions in them already for coolant contamination, electrical issues are not uncommon (because theres a ton more going on) and MICE FUCKING LOVE EATING THEIR BIO-BULLSHIT HARNESSES
