The big draw to the 2nd gens for me is the roomier double cab WITH a manual trans, since the one unforgivable thing Toyota did with the 1st gens was deny us a 5 speed with the double cabs. I'd love a 6spd DCSB 2nd gen some day

FWIW 3/8" ID line for PS return is too tight. It's been 6 months and removing the lines is giving me fits

I've seen a lot of threads on here about no cabin air filters on the early 05s just like the 1st gens. There's a thread somewhere about how to add one

they're nice. but if i go second gen its going to be a reg cab.. im not a big fan of the large size of a second gen double cab.

and the damn longbeds are almost the same length as my tundra

Just get used the the throwout bearing chirp and you'll love it. Seems all the 6 speeds are bound to have crickets installed from the factory haha.

keep the first gen. it'll outlive whatever the 4th gen is for sure. toyota as much as i hate to say it currently is on a downward trend on quality. and i see it every day at work.. but all manufacturers are because everyone wants tech. they dont care about built quality because these things have turned into throw away items

I'm already used to the TB chirp on my 04 haha. Done it since I bought it, with the old clutch and the new one I had installed. After about 10k miles it started chirping too. I just live with it, it's really only bad when it's hot out or I've been driving a lot.

interesting. As far as I knew it wasn't in the 05. maybe mid year? 06 and up for sure. You know better than I - just going off what I remember reading when I was looking at the whole cabin air filter thing.

the 2nd gen TB is annoying as hell.. but the fix is to replace it with a better one. simple.

Which lasts like 20k at best then back to chirping.

Atleast thats what the general consensus on here is.

Yea mine sounds like a mob of angry crickets when it's really bad, can hear it with the window up. Goes away the second you put pressure on the clutch pedal

agreed on the roomier cabin. When I was fitting the car seat for the kid in the back for the first time, really wanted to move to a 2nd gen because of that extra room.

Yea we make it work with my truck and the carseat I PMed you about, but it really only works because my wife is smaller and can sit with the passenger seat all the way forward. But it would be nice to not have to worry about space like that

yup. my tundras proves that all the modern tech I would want can be easily added. i may even do blindspot monitors just because. (the cap actually has created a massive blind spot)
