Just replace them based on age like a timing belt. They’re known to fail. If they haven’t been replaced yet, you should replace them.

I went to NAPA for the outer 555 tie rods. They’re cheap and good quality.

Upper and lower ball joints I went OEM. You can do 555 for the upper, but never the lower.

Outer tie rod is OK for 555, but stick to OEM for the inner.

I bought my truck used at 180k. The previous owner didn't have all of the records so I'm sort of starting from scratch. Now, 30k later I'm working on tackling it all as I want the truck to continue to last and I don't have a car payment. Though, I do have issues with the front timing cover leaking which sucks.

Yes. One of them was missing actually which expedited the failure of the others.

Partly my fault for not checking them regularly. They were removed to do my 4WD conversion.

When my truck was a 5lug I had a LBJ fail just going over a speed bump in Santa Monica. They are just as bad as the 6lug LBJs

It failed when I was doing groceries in downtown SF. Cost me like $400 to have it towed back to the suburbs haha.

Why would you need a bigger slip yoke?

Ouch. You could have had new lowers put in for that.
