Youre stealership let yall talk to customers? Even when the plague isnt ravaging the earth my local dealer refuses (except on extremely rare cases) to let customers talk to techs. You have to go through the usually technically challenged service advisor.

The Toyota dealership/service advisor here let me go back into the garage to talk with the tech working on my truck when I was getting my clutch done a few years ago

Like I said, extremely rare cases. I had a tech meet me outside when I was getting those weird braking issues a little over a year ago. Otherwise youre trying to explain things to a SA who knows nothing about what youre telling them. All they are are salespeople just selling service instead of cars. A few good ones, but mostly idiots.

Yeah that was why he let me go back to talk with the tech lol. That SA had no idea what I was talking about when I was bringing up the throwing bearing chirp issue and just decided to let me go talk with the tech directly.

He also showed me the clutch plate and how it was installed backward by the first shop that did it. What an expensive headache that was

Cant wait for that job/bill in the future. Ive gotta get the seals between the tranny and t-case done on mine cause their leaking. May aswell have the clutch done at the same time. Ill likely farm it out to the shop that did the rebuild on my sisters Rav4 if I still live around here whenever I decide to do it.

yeah whatever you do, don't have the dealership do that job haha. I made that mistake because the first shop fucked it up and I just wanted it done right after that, but I paid an arm and a leg for it. I shoulda held out a bit and found a competent independent shop.

The shop Id go to is a semi national chain and they quoted my dad I think $500ish less than the dealer for the clutch on his 08. But they were also kind enough to tell him not to worry about it until the chirp doesnt go away when you push the clutch.

My clutch nightmare happened a few years ago, got about 55k on the stock clutch that Toyota put in after that but hopefully I'll get another 100k or so out of it before the time comes that I need to replace it again. With the supercharger and offroading I do, I don't expect it to last nearly as long as some guys get out of their 1st gen clutches (200k+). I'll be happy if I get 100 - 150k out of it.

Ideally, next time I'll tackle it with someone that knows the job and can help me out but that depends on life and shit when the time comes.
