That’ll get expensive quickly to the point where it’s cheaper to just buy a compressor. That trunk by itself took me a week to do, keeping in mind I didn’t have body shop experience. A whole truck will take a long long time for a first timer.

My advice to you is paint something first. Do a door, or a hood, or a tailgate. Practice on something small first and get the feel for it so you don’t have to redo an entire truck.

That’s why I spent more on auto body supplies to fix a Mercedes that’s worth $55. Because it’s good practice. I made a lot of mistakes painting that trunk, but now I know what mistakes not to make again.

 

FWIW I have been using a stand up craftsman 30gal 120v compressor for almost 15yrs now and it's probably one of the best tools I have purchased. Runs everything I need just fine, it will run out of air kind of fast if using a grinder, but I just use my electrics instead. Busts bolts loose just fine with an impact. With an impact the actual gun it's self matters more than the compressor running it. I would rock that husky one.

 

It looks better than what I've seen come out of some body shops. You saved $4,100. That's what matters most.

 

If your breaker panel is in the garage and theres an attic above it, installing a 240v circuit is pretty simple.

I have an older 30gal 120v compressor and other than it being kinda loud it does everything I ask it to just fine.

Im by no means an expert on the subject, I just took a semester of auto body in Highschool and I seem to remember it very well. But a complete respray is a pretty daunting task if its your first time. Id start by doing small panels or painting things other than cars like @BartMaster1234 did as you gather tools and learn how to use the gun.
