He said ALL of the four six pistons were like that. That was just the worst one.

That connecting rod end is blue on black Kenny Wayne Shepard style. This wasn't some random failure. Shitty engine build, shitty driving or a combination of both

He told me the two rebuilds he did, he paid over $4k in parts. He used oversized pistons and had the blocks re-honed and machined.

I might've remembered that wrong. You're right should be four. I assumed six.

One could buy $10k in engine parts and still build something that's ripe for failure. The fact that he's grenaded two of them tells me it's not the parts.

The severe bluing is a give away that this wasn't a random failure that happened instantly

    It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.

Every manufacturer has their quirks. Chrysler had reliable cars at one point, Toyota had terrible cars at one point.

I'm not a Subaru fan, but I think a lot of modded Subaru problems are brought on by owners that think they're Colin McRae.

I don't know if the STI's fall in that category lol. I can see them being 'relatively' reliable but people that buy those things tend to push them pretty hard.

Lies, man dont believe those lies told to you by the boxer engine fanboys.

In other news, my dads truck needs a new tensioner pulley bearing. Toyota wants to do the entire assembly for $850. I read that the bearing itself is relatively easy to replace so we'll try that route first along with a new serpentine belt.

Also, Ive located a thread where a guy has a similar noise to mine when his foot was barely on the gas. Looks like I'll be doing a carrier bearing sometime this winter.

I'd never buy a used WRX or STi. That girl Tiffany that's high on E, wears the shiny wet look pants, with the big coldsore and likes getting raw dogged at Coachella by odd blokes you might have a better time trying to restore her honor vs. trying to fix Chad's dicked up Subaru.

Holy shit. And I thought my clear coat was bad, and it's been parked out in the hot California sun since 1997. Only the roof and hood are affected, the rest of the paint is in decent shape.

He's not kidding. When he came to my house to help with the lift, it was freshly detailed. Looked great.
