Looking to finally buy some quality socket sets, time to retire my Kirkland Signature 100 Piece set and keep it in the truck for emergencies. Anyone have any recommendations?

I still have my SnapOn student account, but even at 50-70% off it's still $200 for a set of Metric socket bits. Any recommendations for brands? I know Craftsmen went to shit after they stopped making them in America. Don't know how I feel about Husky. Matco seemed like the obvious choice.

I was looking at this set, which is about $459. It's not Matco, but its cheaper line of tools called Silver Eagle (similar to SnapOn's Blue Point). We didn't have a Matco rep when I was a student, so it's full price on that.

Or should I just say 'screw it' and buy another socket set from Costco? IDK - It's time I buy some quality tools.

I bought all of the HF impact sockets in deep and short for both 3/8 and 1/2 and I've never broken one. For times when I need thin wall to reach I have a set of Kobalt/Husky (one of each depending on SAE or metric) chrome thinwall (normal) sockets.

I find sets aren't all that helpful, I get what I need as I need it, haven't bought a tool in a while though making me think I need to branch out haha

    harbor freight for life

....if I'm ever rich enough I'll buy my tools someplace else, but for my level of 'expertise' it's hard to beat their prices and the fact that I can get everything I need and then some for a fraction of what other brands cost, and if it breaks they'll usually replace it.

However based on other people's experiences I would never buy a HF winch or Hi-Lift from there

Some of their stuff I cant stand, like their box wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, some of their ratchets (they have acceptable ones now) for those things I buy Channellock, Snap-On, Mac, Tekton, Kobalt

I know SnapOn and Matco are intended for people who wrench professionally, and need a reliable tool - but I don't know how I feel about buying a Harbor Freight set. Don't get me wrong - 75% of my specialty sockets and tools all come from Harbor Freight like their E-Torx, Axle Nut Sockets, Allen Head Sockets, ETC but for something like standard SAE/Metric sockets which I use 90% of the time I want something quality.

I see it this way. Those specialty tools I use probably once or twice a year, I'm not paying Matco $200 for a set of Axle Nut sockets. But something like normal everyday sockets that I use ALL the time, I want something better, ya know?

Craftsmen quality went to shit when they stopped making them in America. It's just bad now.

ugh, UPS sucks. My Denso AC parts were supposed to get here saturday... not it's not going to get here till tuesday. I already had the system evacuated of the freon.

I'm still using my Crapsman tool set that I got in like 2010. Only thing to screw up on me was a torque wrench.. I got a new one for free
