Come do some wiring for me. I need new outlets in the garage.

 

MC cable is the easy way out. Nothing beats clean conduit bends.

 

Its easy stuff. Got drywall in there?

 

If this was a shop where the likley hood for it getting hit was high I would do conduit. But because all i will do is wash my clothes in here MC is fine

Yup. Drywall backed by particle board for a "firewall". Ceiling in the garage is a double layer of drywall too.

 

Attic above? Wheres the garage in relation to the breaker panel?

It's a peaked roof about the garage, so room in the middle and then barely crawl space at the sides. Breaker panel is on the outside wall of the garage. To run new wire into the ceiling, you have to get to the very edge of the roof to feed the new wire. Also need a new breaker for just the garage outlets and want to install lighting in the ceiling while I'm at it.

 

Ooh, yeah, that would be handy.

I need a good stud finder. The one I have is horrible.

 

Sounds exactly like what I did in my garage. Layed across the beams in the attic to run wire across the garage for a separate 20A outlet and a 230v outlet for my welder. Absolute pita but worth it. If my breaker panel wasnt in my garage I doubt I wouldve done it myself.

 

I use a flashlight and look for the humps in the mud where the nails are. Once you find one, its 16" to the next one. Works 90% of the time.

 

Yeah, I'll do it eventually. Too hot here to be crawling around up there right now. I think once I get the electrical done, I'll put some insulation up there to help keep the garage cooler.

 

Yeah, that usually works but it's harder with that particle board in there too.

 

Ah yeah that would be a pain. Also means youre gonna have a hard time using those remodel boxes that are meant for one sheet of drywall.

Yeah that would do the trick. But it turns what should be a simple job into a drywall patch job haha. At that point Id be more inclined to do metal boxes and conduit. Should be all 90 degree bends for the most part.
