Well that’d hurt and you probably wouldn’t get very many return customers.

But I’m sure you give a mean blowy

Thanks for the part # and recommendation. My roommate asked me why my truck was still in the garage opening this morning and I showed him what was going on. He said "you can go get that bolt at NAPA" and that I could get it out without a bolt extractor with vice grips or a crescent wrench. He also spoke down to me like I was a complete idiot and I didn't appreciate it. So I just firmly disagreed and caused a mild dispute. This is why I chose a quicker fix rather than getting the proper tools. Might have a living situation dispute on my hands.

I decided to call up a distant relative who worked at a dealer for years. Figured he'd seen everything and would have some wisdom. He told me they always tapped/shocked those cam plug bolts with a brass punch before going at them. He said a bolt extractor was my best bet, but I also might get away with a 3/8 12 point. Since locally all the bolt extractor sockets were too large and wouldn't fit. The Irwin set and Rexbeti you linked are smaller and our specialty bolt place in town would've probably had one too. Was able to tap an older 3/8 6 point socket from a bucket of sockets my grandfather left me. It seemed to have a tighter tolerance than any of my socket sets, and I was able to mash it on there and remove it. It took a lot more force than the other 3 so I'm wondering if it was factory over-torqued. My driver cam plug had RTV on it, the passenger one did not. Makes me think someone stopped mid-job and didn't finish past this rounded off bolt.

Now to order that bolt or see if somehow the specialty bolt place in town has something.

Those old sockets were great! Super tighter tolerances, at least on the Montgomery Ward/Sears ones I've played with. That's pretty cool you were able to get it out with those. I had a bucket of pass me downs from step pops that I was driving back to Utah from Virginia with. In Albuquerque I stayed at a hotel and didn't even think about putting the tools inside or in the truck. Just hand tools but they were the cool old real made in USA stuff and all serviceable and meant to be used for decades and decades... And of course they weren't there when I went out in the morning
