Been an interesting week, I’ve got even more tools now. Picked up a bunch of stuff from a retired civil engineer.

Got two Dremels, two Weller soldering guns, a belt sander, finishing sander, circular saw, two jigsaws, an electric paint gun, some hand tools, a whole engine analyzer/timing light/pressure gauge basically brand new, an old old model train kit, and my favorite: a chainsaw.

I’ve been so wanting a two stroke chainsaw. I broke the spark plug trying to see if it had spark, so we’ll wait till I get new parts. Ordered a new pull start and some other things for it.

My response was a little cheeky as well because there are plenty of people on this forum who spout secondhand knowledge as advice in a fear-mongering way... not me, obviously :luvya: The drawbacks are pretty tolerable in most cases but there are a lot of enthusiasts who will only entertain the idea of "the best" when it comes to parts and lose sight of the bigger picture. Like you say, a front lunchbox locker would be an awesome asset for a lot of people who off road but there's plenty of "SCARY DON'T DO IT" posts

My wife and I are watching this Australian ranching tv show from the early 2000s on Prime, literally 90% of their vehicles, even the sedans, have snorkels on them.

Some pretty sweet Land Cruisers on it too, and every ranch has at least 2 or 3 El Camino looking things they call 'utes'. Ugly as sin but practical I guess lol.

I've had to deal with so much theoretical BS with electrical systems I hate giving opinions in real life unless I've got a first (or second) hand experience with it

And I mean BS as in there's so many things to keep track of that could happen... not BS as in OSHA safety regulations BS lol

Squirt a lil 2 stroke in the spark plug hole before cranking it over too many times. On a saw that vintage the piston ring can stick and score the shit outta the cyl wall.

I usually like to take the muffler off and inspect the cyl wall for scratches ... some are okay but not anything you can feel

I’ve got a boroscope, I’ll go see what it looks like. I was gonna squirt ATF down there but it turns over freely

Damn son, so fancy with your boroscope! Way better idea lol

Number one failure I see on 2 stoke that age is the crank seals drying out and being able to suck air through the bottom end, leaning the mixture out and scoring shit.

The absolute best hands down personally tested and verified 2 stroke oil is OPTI-2 it's a locally made product here in WA but I know I've seen in sold in big box stores. That stuff has been 3rd party tested to be thinned as much as 150:1 and still provide lubrication in a 50:1 system. That old saw is probably 40:1 or even 32:1 but it doesn't matter. That OPTI-2 will work no problem

I was so confused when I was taking the covers off why the screws were JIS. Turns out it’s made in Japan for Echo in the 80’s.
