    I'm lazy.

I converted my propane grill to natural gas and plumbed it into the house gas system. No more running after bullshit propane cylinders.

I admit, charcoal and wood impart a wonderful flavor, but the convenience of hitting the igniter and turning on the gas sure helps me look past that.

Plus the fact that we grill 2x per week every week of the year counts as well. Grilling steaks in a snowstorm makes them taste better for some reason.

That’s a valid excuse, if you grill often enough a gas burning grill is very convenient. I don’t grill that often, so even though Charcoal is inconvenient, I still use it.

How did you convert your grill to natural gas? Seems like a lot of work to run a new gas line if there wasn’t already one installed.

When we finally got to renovating our backyard, we looked into running gas lines for patio heaters and a stationary grill as well as an on demand water heater to replace the traditional tank heater.

Waayyyyy too expensive, and far too much hassle. It’s building permits for days, and some crazy amount of money.

    Not much work at all.

Most houses in town around here have natural gas. You just need to install a "T" and install a valve and run the pipe to where you need it. Often gas meters are on the outside of garages, so the running of pipe is no big deal. Find the shut off valve at the gas meter if you don't have one downstream.

You will have to light any pilot lights after you are done if you have any. I doubt you do.

All the box stores will thread pipe for you. At the end of the pipe, install a ball valve then you can use hydraulic hose to run to the grill. Its tougher, so it holds up well. There is less than a 1/2 lb of pressure in the gas line.

You are supposed to use UL listed gas valves to make it legal, but there is absolutely no difference in a regular ball valve vs. the UL listed version...except the 3x cost.

The orfices on the grill need to be drilled out. I forget the size but you can find it easily on the internet. You don't have to be real accurate. A grill burner is not designed to be efficient, so a step up or down in size won't make a huge difference.

Its a shame it has to be that way. The system is designed to put plumbers to work. Plumbing is a well paid skilled trade. The system purposely makes it illegal for the home owner do do this work. There are much more dangerous things that homeowners are allowed to do that are not as regulated.

I gotta ask. Are you using talk to text? A bit of punctuation would help me comprehend a bit better. I'm not a grammar Nazi, but I need a little hep.

I'm not sure what you are saying.

    OK.

Just remember, when your thought changes, toss in a period. It will be close enough.

Long weekend and all, figured it might be time to ask a dumb question. When I order parts online and they ask for year, make, model and trim, under trim the options are usually base, prerunner and s-runner. I figure im not base or prerunner so must be s-runner. Is that what SR-5 is called? I just never heard the term s-runner before. Anyone want to enlighten me. Thnx.

It’s the labor and permits that’s expensive. I nor the landscaper we were using was qualified to run gas lines.

If you have a 4x4 truck, you use “Base”. If you have a 2WD PreRunner, you use “PreRunner”. If you have a 5-lug truck, you use “S-Runner”.

I am most certainly not going to run gaslines or have someone not qualified to run gaslines to save money. That’s the kind of safety compromise I am not going to make.

You don't think working on your truck is more dangerous?

Do you trust that you repaired your brakes properly to stop you while on the road?

It's no difference working with gas. Learn how to install pipe properly and check for leaks.

Again, its a game that has been rigged in the favor of the plumbers.
