2k is a steal, oddly enough.

    I mean, lookat this:
    https://kansascity.craigslist.org/pts/d/kansas-city-1996-toyota-tacoma-4-four/7185827218.html

Frame rust and the guy thinks it would be $5500 if it were running... So he only wants $3428.

The market (geographically speaking) dictates what a vehicle will sell for.

Comparing pricing with others all across the united states isn't a good way to compare. Not to mention perceived value; one person will see a shitbox where others will see a perfect commuter or project, etc.

Hence why I said californian all y'all are just crazy

A clean truck in a rust state, understandable it's a hard to come by commodity

But a truck in an arid climate in the state it was made should be a dime a dozen

Jebus Christa... guess I should feel lucky I got mine for 2k then. I know it would've sold instantly if the clutch wasn't toast... people won't buy things round here if they can't test drive it. The motor had a dead cyl 1 and the PO drove it for months like that until the clutch died lol

    Wages are higher, generally speaking.

    Costs are higher, generally speaking.

Many areas aren't subject to rust issues like salt states, etc.

See how quickly we nipped that? So really, $6k for a truck here translates to $3500 or $4k for a truck in a cheaper-to-live-in state.

It washes out to be the same.

Give me another example where I'm right.

A clean 80s/90s Toyota pickup is really hard to find these days. I've been looking at my local Craigslists for several years now and haven't seen a single one. If you look on autotrader for pickups with 4x4 and a 5speed, 10-15k is the range, and there's less than 30 for sale nationwide. They are pretty much classic cars at this point.

Yea it was a "wreck" I had to get it towed home the night I bought it (my avatar pic) thank God for AAA!

The previous owner felt sorry for me because I had a completely rebuilt 3rz to drop back into my 4R but due to tweaker intervention I woulda had to drop over 2k (on top of motor cost) into it to get it road worthy

Wow that's interesting to know. I didnt think there would be such a market for a stock IFS truck, totally see it for one of the older straight axles.. those things are worth their weight in gold lol

    Its all uphill from there.

I bought mine, fixed the cigarette lighter outlet in the walmart parking lot, and then drove it 5000 mi home. Still haven't had to tow it. Only $2400!

I fixed my cig lighter outlet waiting for my pizza at Pappa johns, and on another occasion fixed the radio on the same truck in the same parking lot for the same reason

I still cant see how toyota cig lighters can be such crap I've gone through 1 in the tacoma, 2 in the Camry, 2 in the 01 4r

I had the 4R sitting at work (behind a barbwire fence) all the extra stuff was sitting in the back ... wiring harness, intake plenums, the cracked head. Some tools, stuff like that.

He smashed the back power window (which is like 300 bucks to replace) and took anything and everything that could've possibly had a scrap value plus extra shit that had no real value like my disk golf disks and various camping supplies

What pissed me off more than the missing parts was the smashed glass... i had the fucking doors unlocked just in case someone wanted to steal anything! It's my own fault for using the back of the 4R as a storage unit but still..WTF

Hard to know how many buyers exist at those prices, but nostalgia and lack of supply will make people pay prices that aren't entirely rational. My Dad had a couple of the 80s pickups growing up and I've always thought it would be fun to buy and restore one.
