Here's a neat one. I had a Toshiba Libretto. A VHS sized fully functional Pentium I Windows 95/98 machine

We were when I was a kid, but then I moved and he moved and we drifted. Its just how things go, I guess.

How long has your buddy been gone?

Had one of those too, a 100CT. I regret selling it on Ebay. A netbook before netbooks...

Nice. Have you played with Dosbox? Its intended for games - but I've used it for random old dos programming software in the past as well.

How hard is it to find parts for those old dinosaurs? I know there's tons of stuff for the really old C64s and Apple II, but the mid 90s stuff seems like it might get left out.

I actually feel like I should be taking it harder. The last couple years have been generally rough from a personal standpoint, so this just feels like another thing. But thats probably for the better - my mom, his sister, is going to need some support.

I had a 75CT, good little machine, I still have tons of vintage laptops actually, my favorites from that era are my Toshiba Satellite Pros. Circa 1997 or so. My first laptop was actually one of those, and I still have it somewhere. One day I'll post some pics of all my vintage machines. I even have a full Commodore 64, with Commodore monitor, 1504 disk drive, cassette drive, commodore printer, tons of disks, magazines from that era, boxed software, and even some programming guides. Got lucky and bought the whole thing from a family who had it since new.

Used dosbox plenty of times for random software, its more convenient than lugging out the old beast.

As for hardware Its a hit or miss finding them, AT cases are hard to find. I got most of my stuff from ebay, most of it seems to come from Russia or Bulgaria for some reason. Also you can still buy 72 pin SIMM ram new on Amazon.

Damn got rid of it though. It was slowly dying part by part. Backlamp flickering, CD ROM dead, Floppy drive dead, and the last one was the internal pointing device before i retired it.

Toughbooks are cool. I've looked at them off and on over the years, but I just never needed one. Maybe I could get work to get me one for field work....Not that I'd want to carry it on the airplane.

We threw some modern i7 powered toughbooks away at work. Meaning we put the drives on a degauss machine and tossed the laptops in a warehouse. We don't donate them (along with the larger Precision Dell towers) to local schools so they just sit. Wish we would just pop SSDs in more of them and send them back into service. But thermal paste eventually goes bad on many laptops and they start thermal throttling.
