You still on the stock size/weight tires?

I mean ~1mpg less than advertised on a 22 year old vehicle ain't bad, those numbers have always been exaggerated to a degree anyway. With variables like driving style, weight, gas quality, elevation/location, etc being only 1mpg off is pretty good imo

are your ujoints in good shape? CVs? tire pressure good? unless you're certain it's an engine issue I'd be looking at wear/drag items

I mean they make this stuff called Cat-a-Clean that you dump in the fuel tank, supposedly works from what I hear. At least as a Hail Mary if you need to pass smog, sometimes

the power to weight ratio will affect things too.

That's fair. I'm just over thinking it then, my tires are 31s and the door card says 225/75 and those are what 28" tires? I need to remember my bed topper is probably 200lbs by itself... and if you had mpg issues with a poor alignment I've got way worse drag than I'm figuring because all my ushings are shot lol it wanders like crazy

I check tire pressure every other day and run em at 32psi. U joints only have about 5k miles on them cause I rebuilt both driveshafts after the engine rebuild. CVs are stock but they don't click and the boots aren't torn.. planned on rebuild them when I swap gears in the front diff but maybe bow I should do them sooner just because.

I think youre right, it's a weight thing + my brain issues lol that carbureted 302 in my ol 68 econobox got me all fucked up

Would having to run the clutch out have any difference?

    These 31s and 3.56 gears don't get along t
With trying to get going from a dead stop

    Stock again- rip slug

Gearing might help, probs not riding the clutch but more so needing to ride gears longer at higher rpms for fair gear shifts

are you correcting for tire size when you calculate MPG? your truck came stock with 235s? 225s?

Yes I am. It came with the 225s and my speedo is 20% off with the 31s ... i came up with that value by reseting the trip odo and driving exactly 1 mile using interstate markers. Trip odo would read .8 miles

Then using phone GPS to tell speed and compare to what my dash says corresponds with that 20% discrepancy

    Gotcha.

Having larger tires with those tall gears will kill MPG quickly. You're working the engine harder to accelerate and more likely to be lugging it in gear
