Never had a problem but I’m sure I’m the only one

 

Won't argue with you over anti-seize and whether to use it or not. I have my way, you have yours.

It had 6 lugs on the wheel when I got there. No way it broke coming off. It broke when they tightened it down with the impact. They used lots of ugga dugga, I was watching. Then they used a torque wrench and cranked them down more.

Either way, they fixed it, all is good now.

Why they hell do you use it though, it's never recommended and you live in the complete opposite place where an argument could almost be made to ever use it. I'm just curious now, it was brought up in the other thread recently too, and obviously crushed to death.

 

It works up until you know better, then not taking the time starts biting you in the ass. You know, ignorance is bliss and all that.

 

285/70 won't fit in the stock location. Hits the back of the frame where the tow hitch bolts on and then the next crossmember forward that has the tracbar. Also hits that.

So it lives here until I can make a rear bumper with tire carrier.

 

Are 1st gen tacomas better than 3rd gen tacomas?

As for driving dynamics, I think the 1st gens are better than 3rd gens. Does anyone else think so?

My parents have been driving a 97 4X4 v6 automatic for the last 23 years, and I've used it occasionally in the past. I recently helped my parents get into a 2021 army green 4x4 v6 TRD Off road automatic, so I had a couple of hours behind the wheel of the 2021 this weekend.

97 tacoma impressions:
-Definitely more of a fun drive. Mechanical, driving enthusiast type feel.
-v6 has more accessible torque right away to push you in your seat
-the automatic is more than happy to let you access the torque/power
-NVH is terrible
-While not a sports car, I feel more of the road and the truck. I can give it slight throttle to feel a bit of oversteer when I want.

2021 impressions:
-The tech! More creature comforts, safety features, and apple car play.
-The tech! Why are there so many buttons to push
-The feedback from the truck and road is very numb. It feels floaty like a 4 runner
-Still in the break in period so I haven't experienced upper rev range power from the v6.
-The automatic transmission is lethargic. It doesn't want to give me power when I want and it tends to stick to shift patterns to favor fuel economy
-This truck is uncomfortabley huge in sizing compared to the 1st gen. In the 97, I can't see the hood line, but in the 2021, I can see the hood line, which makes me paranoid that I might hit something
-NVH is awesome compared to the 97. Definitely more of a luxury ride.

I definitely appreciate the 1st gens. Just like other 90's cars, I'm very partial to the mechanical feel of older gen cars. Most vehicles feel numb these days.

 

I've used it on wheel studs for years and years. I know about the added torque and adjust for that. Even living here, when I pulled the lugs off doing the rear links and then rotating the old tires, there was rust powder coming out of the lugs nuts. I know many people don't agree with it and that's fine. Doesn't mean I'm wrong or that I'll stop doing it. I've also never had a broken stud from over torqueing until some monkey over torqued shit with the ugga dugga.

 

Good nuff, only reason I said anything was because I figured you didn't know. Some people slop antisieze on everything. I don't don't put it on anything, cause it's a fucking mess and makes it impossible to do anything precisely with torque but it has its place... On anyone elses vehicle hah.

 

I also put anti-seize on spark plug threads.

But that's pretty much it. Mostly.

 

Duralast gold ceramics with the same duralast gold rotors up front and duralast shoes and a fresh drum adjustment had my Tacoma stopping with 31s surprisingly well

Duralast gold ceramics on 13wl calipers and powerstop d/s rotors stop my 4runner on 285/70/17s very well

 

We can't be friends, there's a thousand other bolts you could have said you put it on that would be fine and you pick a spark plug.

 

I use it on bearing and shafts. Things that actually sieze together.

I almost never put it on things with threads other than steam pipe couplings at work.

 

It's gotten too common place. I keep one tiny ass jar of it, for only a couple choice bolts that I know have seizure potential and where torque is unimportant and threads are unlikely to fail.

 

I will admit I used to do a pea sized dab on spark plugs. But after pulling one out after 30k miles I stopped doing that after seeing how it looked all goobered up on the threads.

We use a ton of it at work cause steam and glue will sieze anything up in a short amount of time. Sure as hell beats the 'ol heat it and beat it when it comes to bearings stuck on shafts.

 

Yeah it's totally fine on slip/press fits. Actually pretty good when getting a diff setup since you have to keep removing bearings.

 

I've had this one tube that barely has any left in it. But I've had that same tube for at least 10 years too. I don't re-anti-seize wheel studs once I've done them once. They are usually good for the life of the vehicle unless they get replaced. And I use very little on plug threads. Hundreds of plug changes over the years, never had one get stuck, break or cross thread. And they all come out nicely.

 

These will become off road trailer tires now.

 

The only place I use it is on the exhaust and spark plug threads because they're always a bitch
